Well, ya see, the Little Nestucca River ain’t no big river like the Mississippi, but it’s sure a pretty one. It runs ’bout 20 miles long, stretchin’ through the hills of Oregon. The river starts up in a place called Van Duzer State Forest, which is way up in the northwest part of Polk County, right near Salem. From there, it winds its way mostly to the northwest, takin’ its sweet time through the forests and the mountains.
Now, if ya ever find yourself up in Oregon, ya might wanna check out this little river. The place where it starts, the Van Duzer Forest, is one of them quiet spots, full of trees and little critters runnin’ about. Ain’t no hustle and bustle, just the quiet sounds of the river flowin’ through the woods. Now, I ain’t no expert, but I reckon the Little Nestucca River gets its name from the Nestucca Bay, which is where the river and the ocean meet up near Pacific City. It’s a real peaceful spot, not crowded, and perfect for just sittin’ back and enjoyin’ the view.
Now, I heard folks talkin’ ’bout how nice the river is for swimmin’. There’s a little spot down near Alder Glen, where the water’s real calm and deep. It’s a good place to take a dip if ya want somethin’ a little more peaceful than swimmin’ in a lake or the ocean. The water ain’t too wild there, so it’s safe for folks of all ages. I bet kids love it! It’s nice to have somewhere like that to cool off, away from the big crowds. I can see folks sittin’ on the bank, watchin’ the water flow by, maybe fishin’ or just takin’ in the scenery.
Now, the Little Nestucca River itself flows right into the ocean, where it meets up with the Pacific. I reckon that’s how it got its name, because it all comes together in a place called Nestucca Bay. That’s right near Pacific City, where ya can see the waves roll in, and maybe even spot a few boats out on the water. It’s all real picturesque, the kind of place where ya can just stand there and feel like the world slows down for a minute.
If ya ever go out that way, I’d say stop by the Nestucca River Recreation Area. There’s a real nice spot there for folks who like a good swim or a peaceful place to picnic. I reckon it’s a good place for folks who like nature and aren’t lookin’ for no big tourist traps. Just the good ol’ outdoors, with clean air and clear water.
Now, the whole area around the Little Nestucca River is one of them places that don’t get talked about much. It ain’t famous like some of the bigger rivers, but that’s what makes it so special. Not too many folks crowdin’ around, so it’s a good place to escape all the noise. If ya ever want a quiet little getaway, I reckon this place could be just the ticket.
Well, I reckon that’s ’bout all I got to say on the Little Nestucca River. It’s not too big, but it sure has a lot of beauty. Whether ya want to swim, fish, or just sit and look at the water, it’s a place where ya can relax and enjoy nature the way it’s meant to be.
