Well, let me tell ya ’bout fishin’ at that Dike 3 place. It’s over on Moody Town Road, y’know, 3603 Moody Town Road, Bumpass, VA. They got this thing called “Public Fishing Access” there. That just means anybody can go fishin’, I reckon.
Now, I ain’t got no fancy boat, so I gotta stick to the shore. But that’s alright, plenty of fish to be caught from the bank, if you know what you’re doin’. Lake Anna, that’s where it is, and that lake’s full of fish, they say. Bass, catfish, crappie, all sorts of ’em. Heard tell there’s even walleye and striped bass in there too. Don’t know much about them fancy fish, but if it bites, I’ll reel it in!
They say you can catch ducks there too, in the shallow water. American black ducks, they call ’em. Never tried catchin’ a duck myself, seems kinda silly, but folks do it, I guess. I’m more interested in the fishin’.
- They got a map, I heard, shows you where you can go fishin’. They call it a “Where to Fish” map, or somethin’ like that. Tells you where the public spots are. Ain’t got one myself, but maybe I should get one. Might help me find a good spot.
- Heard some talk about a catwalk over there on the Dike, but it ain’t workin’ no more. County folks are tryin’ to get it fixed, though, which is good. Makes it easier to get to the fish.
The fishin’ folks, they started this “Public Access Program” way back in 1953. That’s a long time ago! They want everyone to be able to fish and go boatin’, which is mighty nice of ’em. They got a whole bunch of places you can go, not just this Dike 3. Over 3,800 marinas, boat ramps, and beaches, they say. That’s a whole lotta fishin’ spots!
This Lake Anna, it ain’t just for fishin’, though. Folks go swimmin’, boatin’, and all sorts of things. It’s a big lake, 14 feet deep on average, and not too many dangers in the water, so it’s pretty safe. Not too far from Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Charlottesville, either. Easy to get to, they say.
They built this lake back in 1971, somethin’ to do with a power plant. But the fish don’t seem to mind none. They just keep on swimmin’ and bitin’ hooks. That’s what I like to see!
Now, if you’re gonna go fishin’ at Dike 3, make sure you bring your own stuff. Your pole, your bait, your bucket, the whole shebang. They don’t give you nothin’ there. And be patient. Fishin’ ain’t always easy. Sometimes you gotta wait a while, but it’s worth it when you finally feel that tug on the line. That’s the best feelin’ in the world, I tell ya.
So, go on down to Dike 3 and give it a try. Maybe you’ll catch a big one. And if you see an old lady fishin’ on the bank, that might just be me. Come on over and say hello, I don’t bite…much!
Remember, it’s about havin’ a good time. Don’t matter if you catch a fish or not. Just bein’ out there by the water, that’s good enough for me.
And keep it clean, ya hear? Don’t leave your trash lyin’ around. We gotta take care of this place so everyone can enjoy it. That’s just common sense.
