Well, let me tell ya about fishin’ in Olcott, New York. I ain’t no fancy writer or fisherman, but I know a thing or two about catchin’ fish, been doin’ it my whole life. Folks say Olcott and Newfane, they got some of the best fishin’ around. They talk about all sorts of fish – salmon, steelhead, pike, bass, big ones and small ones, all swimmin’ around in that water.
Now, I ain’t got no fancy boat, just a little ol’ thing, but it gets me out there. I heard some fellas talkin’ ’bout fishin’ reports from September 2024. Said they were catchin’ fish, but it weren’t always easy. One fella said he was out there from 7:30 to 10:00 in the mornin’, in water that was 120 to 200 feet deep. He had six rods in the water, but it was hard keepin’ ’em all goin’ at once. Them fish, they like to pull hard, ya know.
He was usin’ somethin’ called “riggers,” lowered ’em down 65 to 100 feet. And them “dipsies,” somethin’ else he was usin’, sent them out 210 to 260 feet. Sounded complicated to me, but I guess it works. He said he didn’t catch no monsters, but he caught enough to keep him busy. Tried goin’ east, he did, but the fish were bitin’ better goin’ the other way, I reckon.
Fishin’ ain’t always easy, that’s for sure. Sometimes you go out there and sit for hours, and you don’t catch nothin’ but a cold. Other times, the fish are jumpin’ in the boat, almost like they want to be caught. That’s just the way it is. You gotta be patient, and you gotta know where to look.
- You gotta find the right spot, where the fish are hangin’ out.
- You gotta use the right bait, somethin’ they like to eat.
- And you gotta have a little bit of luck, that’s for sure.
I ain’t got no secrets, no special tricks. I just go out there and fish. Sometimes I catch ’em, sometimes I don’t. But I always have a good time, bein’ out on the water, feelin’ the sun on my face and the wind in my hair.
Lake Ontario, that’s a big ol’ lake. Plenty of fish in there, I tell ya. But you gotta know what you’re doin’. You gotta respect the water, too. It can be dangerous out there, especially if the weather turns bad. Gotta watch out for them storms, they can come up quick.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about goin’ fishin’ in Olcott, New York, well, go ahead. It’s a good place to fish. Just remember what I told ya. Be patient, find the right spot, use the right bait, and have a little bit of luck. And don’t forget to bring a jacket, it can get chilly out on the water, even in the summertime. And most important thing, have fun! That’s what fishin’s all about, ain’t it? Just gettin’ away from it all, and enjoyin’ the peace and quiet. And maybe catchin’ a fish or two while you’re at it.
Now, I heard tell that some folks use all sorts fancy gadgets and gizmos for fishin’. Fish finders and GPS and all that stuff. I ain’t never used none of that. I just use my eyes and my gut. If the water looks fishy, I fish it. If it don’t, I move on. That’s always worked for me.
One more thing, don’t go tellin’ everyone my spots, ya hear? A good fishin’ spot is hard to find, and I don’t want everyone and their brother comin’ and scarin’ away all the fish. Keep it to yourself, and maybe we can go fishin’ together sometime. I’ll show ya the ropes, teach ya how to catch them Olcott fish.
