Alright, let me tell ya, fall fishin’ for them bass ain’t so different from other times, but ya gotta know what they like when the weather starts gettin’ chilly. Them fish, they’re gettin’ ready for winter, so they eat a whole lot, ya know? So you gotta give ’em what they want.
Early Fall Baits
Now, when fall just starts, when it’s still kinda warm, them bass are still kinda active. You can use them spinnerbaits, ya know, the ones with the shiny blades that spin around? Bass love them things, makes a fuss in the water. And crankbaits too, them little things that wiggle and dive when you reel ’em in. Them lipless crankbaits, they work good too, make a lot of noise and vibration. Colors? Well, I like the bright ones, like chartreuse and pepper, or maybe chrome and blue. White and blue is good too. Sometimes, them crawfish colors work wonders, or somethin’ that looks like a little shad fish. Them bass, they eat what they see, so ya gotta make it look tasty.
- Spinnerbaits: Shiny blades, lots of colors.
- Crankbaits: Wiggle and dive, make some noise.
- Lipless Crankbaits: More noise, more vibration.
Later Fall Baits
Okay, so when it gets real cold, them bass, they go deeper, ya know? They ain’t chasin’ stuff as much, so you gotta get down to ’em. That’s when I use jigs, them heavy things with the hooks. Tubes too, them little rubber things that look like worms or somethin’. And this drop-shot stuff, I don’t know what they call it, but it works. You put a little weight on the bottom and the hook up a bit, so the bait just hangs there. Them bass, they see it and they snatch it up. Colors? Well, same as before, but maybe a little darker. The water’s gettin’ colder, so maybe they ain’t seein’ as good.
Colors and When to Fish
For them topwater baits and spoons and such, the bright colors is good, like I said. White, white and chartreuse, fire tiger, them work good too. Now, when the air and water get cold, them bass, they come up shallower sometimes, especially before winter. They wanna eat a lot before it gets real cold, ya know? So you can catch ’em shallow sometimes. October, that’s a good month for fishin’, real good. If you’re up north, you know, where it gets cold fast, you can still use them topwater baits and lipless ones. But down south, where it stays warmer longer, crankbaits is your best bet. And don’t forget about the grass, them bass like to hide in there. You can use them jigs that you punch through the grass, or them frog baits, they work real good too. You’ll catch some big ones that way.
Now, the best time to fish? Well, right before the sun goes down, them fish, they get all crazy, bitin’ at anything. But once it starts gettin’ real cold at night, like in the forties or fifties, you wanna fish in the middle of the day or late afternoon. Mornin’s and evenin’s are good for them topwater baits, when the fish are lookin’ up. But mostly, just get out there and fish, ya know? That’s the only way you gonna catch somethin’. Don’t sit around watchin’ TV, go fishin’!
A Little Bit More About It
You gotta remember, them bass, they change what they like dependin’ on the weather and the water. So if one thing ain’t workin’, try somethin’ else. And don’t be scared to ask around, see what other folks are usin’. Most fishermen, they ain’t gonna tell you all their secrets, but they might give you a hint or two. And pay attention to the water, if it’s clear, you can use brighter baits. If it’s muddy, you need somethin’ darker or somethin’ that makes a lot of noise. And most important, have fun! Fishin’ ain’t just about catchin’ fish, it’s about bein’ outside, enjoyin’ the weather, and relaxin’. So get out there and wet a line, ya hear?
