Well, hey there, y’all! Let me tell ya ’bout fishin’ in that Lake Moultrie. I ain’t no fancy fisherman, mind you, but I’ve been throwin’ a line in that water for a good long while now, and I reckon I know a thing or two.
Lake Moultrie, she’s a big ol’ lake, they say it’s 60,000 acres or somethin’. That’s a whole lotta water, and lemme tell ya, it’s got a whole lotta fish in it too. I ain’t measured it myself, but that’s what folks say. You can catch all sorts of stuff in there, bass and stripers, them catfish, crappie, pickerel… even them little sunfish, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ easy.
Now, some folks, they like to go after them largemouth bass. Them fellas put up a good fight, they do. Make your line sing and your arms tired. Good eatin’, too, if you fry ’em up right. I caught a big un’ last spring, must’ve weighed… well, it was big, I tell ya! Had to use both hands to hold it up.
Then there’s them stripers. Them’s the ones that run in schools, and when they’re bitin’, oh boy, it’s somethin’ else. You can pull ’em in one after another, till your arms are so sore you can barely lift ’em. But it ain’t always easy, mind you. Sometimes they just ain’t hungry, or maybe they’re swimmin’ somewhere else. Fishin’ ain’t always predictable, that’s for sure.
And let’s not forget about them catfish. Them bottom feeders, they ain’t pretty, but they sure are tasty. And they get big, real big. I’ve seen catfish pulled outta that lake that were bigger than my dog! You gotta use some strong line and a good hook for them fellas, or they’ll just snap it right off.
- Bass: Them largemouth bass are real popular. Fight hard, taste good. Best time to catch ’em? Folks say April and September, but I’ve caught ’em all year round.
- Stripers: When they’re runnin’, it’s a fishin’ frenzy. But you gotta find ’em first.
- Catfish: Big and ugly, but good eatin’. They like to hang out on the bottom, so you gotta get your bait down deep.
- Crappie, Pickerel, and Sunfish: Good for a fish fry, especially them crappie. Sunfish are good for the young’uns to catch, easy and fun.
Now, where to fish in that big ol’ lake? Well, there’s 210 miles of shoreline, so you got plenty of choices. I like to find a quiet spot, away from all the boats and noise. Sometimes I fish from the bank, sometimes I go out in a little jon boat. It all depends on how I’m feelin’ that day.
They got this place called the Tailrace Canal, too. Water’s always movin’ there, and the fish like to hang out where the current is. I’ve heard tell they update the fishin’ report for that canal regular-like, so you can see what’s bitin’ before you even head out. That’s handy, I reckon.
And don’t forget to check the weather before you go. Fishin’ ain’t much fun when it’s pourin’ down rain or blowin’ a gale. I like a nice, calm day, maybe a little bit of sunshine. Makes for a pleasant day on the water, even if the fish ain’t bitin’ much.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a good place to fish, Lake Moultrie is worth a try. It ain’t always easy, but that’s part of the fun, ain’t it? Just remember to be patient, keep your hook baited, and maybe you’ll catch yourself a big un’. And if you don’t, well, at least you spent a day outside, enjoyin’ the fresh air and the peace and quiet. That’s good for the soul, I tell ya.
Oh and them fellas at , they got some reports too, if you wanna get all fancy. Me, I just like to go and see what happens.
Good luck, y’all, and happy fishin’!
