Alright, let’s gab about this fishin’ stuff down at Kure Beach Pier, ya hear? I ain’t no fancy writer, just tellin’ it like it is.
Kure Beach Pier Fishin’: What’s the Big Deal?
Well, folks keep askin’ ’bout the fishin’ down there, so I figured I’d spill the beans. It ain’t nothin’ complicated, just good ol’ fishin’. You go down to that there pier, throw your line in the water, and hope somethin’ bites. That’s it. Simple as pie.
- First off, you wanna know what kinda fish you can catch, right? Well, they got all sorts. Spanish Mackerel, them’s some tasty ones. Flounder, kinda flat lookin’ but good eatin’. Red Drum, they put up a good fight. Plenty more, too, but I ain’t got all day to list ’em.
- Then there’s the where. You got the pier itself, stickin’ out into the ocean. But don’t forget them other spots. Carolina Beach, that ain’t far. Cape Fear River, that’s got fish too. Intercoastal Waterway, they call it, kinda like a big ditch but with water. And them docks near the Boat Basin, fish like to hang around there.
- Now, when to go? That’s the tricky part. Some folks say early mornin’, some say late evenin’. I say, go whenever you can! But there’s this app, they call it BiteTime™, supposed to tell ya when the fish are bitin’. I ain’t used it myself, but the young’uns swear by it. You can download it if you’re fancy like that.
The Fishin’ Report, Such as It Is
Now, ’bout them fishin’ reports. People always wantin’ to know what’s been caught and when. Well, they got reports you can look at. Some say what’s been caught in the last 7 days, some say 14 days, some even go back 90 days. That’s a long time ago, if you ask me. They even got one for all time, but who knows how long that is.
I ain’t gonna lie, I don’t always trust them reports. Fishermen, they like to brag, ya know? Sometimes they catch a little fish and make it sound like a whale. But it’s a good place to start, I guess. You can see what’s been bitin’ lately, might give you an idea of what to use for bait and where to go.
For example, that June 2024 report, said folks were catchin’ this and that. Drum and Spots, they mentioned. But remember, fish ain’t always predictable. One day they’re bitin’ like crazy, next day they’re gone. That’s just fishin’.
My Two Cents, For What It’s Worth
If you wanna go fishin’ at Kure Beach Pier, here’s my advice. Don’t overthink it. Get yourself some bait, some hooks, a rod and reel, and go have fun. Don’t worry too much about them reports, just go out there and see what happens. Talk to the other folks on the pier, they might give you some tips.
And remember, fishin’ ain’t just about catchin’ fish. It’s about bein’ outside, enjoyin’ the air, and relaxin’. If you catch a fish, that’s a bonus. If you don’t, well, you still had a good time, right?
Places to Fish Around Kure Beach
Now, if the pier’s too crowded or you just want to try somethin’ different, there’s other places to go. Like I said, Carolina Beach ain’t far. You can fish from the shore there, or get yourself a boat if you’re feelin’ fancy. The Cape Fear River, that’s a whole different ballgame. You got river fish in there, not just ocean fish. And the Intercoastal Waterway, that’s good for calmer fishin’, less waves and such. Then there’s them docks near the Boat Basin, good place to find some fish huddle up.
And don’t forget about Fort Fisher, that’s a good spot too. You can fish from the shore there, or take a boat out into the river. Just be careful, them currents can be strong.
Last words
So, there you have it. My take on fishin’ at Kure Beach Pier. It ain’t rocket science, just good ol’ fishin’. Go out there, have some fun, and maybe catch yourself a fish or two. And if you see me down there, come say hello. I’ll be the one with the old hat and the fishin’ pole.
And remember, be patient. Fishin’ takes time. Sometimes you catch somethin’ right away, sometimes you sit there all day and don’t get a bite. That’s just the way it is. But if you stick with it, you’ll eventually catch somethin’. And that feelin’ of a fish on the line, that’s somethin’ special. Can’t beat it.
