Alright, listen up y’all, let me tell ya ’bout fishin’ down Solomons way. I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’, just tellin’ it like it is, ya know?
Solomons MD Fishing Report: What’s Bitin’ and Where
Folks been askin’ me, “What’s the fishin’ like?” Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t too bad, not too bad at all. It all depends on what you’re lookin’ for and when you go, ya hear?
Now, in the spring and summer, when the weather’s warm and the sun’s shinin’, that’s when them Rockfish, or Striped Bass as some folks call ’em, they start bitin’. You can find ’em in them bays and shallows, ya know? Them speckled trout and red drum, they like it there too. Good eatin’, them fellas are.
And don’t forget about them croakers and spot. Little fellas, but they taste mighty fine fried up with some potatoes. My grandpappy used to say, “Ain’t nothin’ better than fresh caught croaker on a summer evenin’.” He was a wise old fella, he was.
If you’re lookin’ for somethin’ bigger, you gotta go out a bit deeper. Some folks go trollin’ for mackerel along the beach. I ain’t done that much myself, but I hear it’s a good time. You need a good boat though, and some strong arms to reel them suckers in.
Come fall, that’s when the speckled trout really start runnin’. The water gets a bit cooler, and them fish, they go crazy. October’s a good month for ’em, I hear. Shallow water fishin’ is where it’s at then. Just gotta find yourself a good spot, ya know?
- Rockfish (Striped Bass): Spring and summer, bays and shallows.
- Speckled Trout: Spring and summer, shallows, big runs in the fall.
- Red Drum: Spring and summer, similar spots to Rockfish.
- Croakers and Spot: All summer, good eatin’, smaller fish.
- Mackerel: Trollin’ along the beach, need a good boat.
Now, flounder, them flat fish, they’re a bit tricky. You gotta drift the bays for them. They like to hide on the bottom, ya know? Use some live bait, like minnows or somethin’. And be patient. Fishin’ ain’t always about catchin’, sometimes it’s just about sittin’ there and enjoyin’ the peace and quiet.
I seen some folks talkin’ about Tuna and Yellowtail, deep sea fishin’ they call it. Sounds fancy, don’t it? I ain’t never done that kinda fishin’, but I hear it’s somethin’ else. You gotta go way out, on a big boat, with special gear and all that. If you’re lookin’ for a real adventure, that might be your thing. Brothers Sportfishing, they do that kinda stuff, I heard. Good folks, they are.
If you’re plannin’ a fishin’ trip, you gotta do your homework, ya hear? Check them fishin’ reports, see what’s bitin’ and where. *, they got all that information, I hear. They tell you what to expect and all that. Saves you time and trouble, ya know?
And don’t forget your tackle, ya hear? You need the right rods, reels, and bait. And a good hat to keep the sun outta your eyes. And some sunscreen, unless you wanna look like a lobster. Trust me on that one.
So, that’s the fishin’ report, folks. Solomons ain’t a bad place to wet a line. Just remember to be patient, respect the water, and have fun. And if you catch somethin’ good, fry it up and enjoy it. Life’s too short to eat bad fish, ya know?
Now go on out there and catch yourself some dinner! And remember to leave the place cleaner than you found it. Don’t want them fish swimmin’ in trash, do we?
