Alright, let’s talk about catchin’ them bass in the river, you know, the kind that makes your arms tired and your belly full of fish fry. I ain’t no fancy fisherman with all them fancy gears, but I tell you what, I know a thing or two about gettin’ them bass bitin’.
First off, you gotta know what them bass like to eat. It ain’t rocket science, y’know. They like them little minnows, crawfish – you know, them mudbugs – and even them grasshoppers that jump around in the summer. So, when you pickin’ your bait, think about what them bass be seein’ in the water. Use somethin’ that looks like a minnow, or maybe one of them spinner things that shine and wiggle. Them crawfish lookin’ jigs, they work good too, especially the small ones.
Now, findin’ where them bass hang out, that’s the real trick. You gotta look for the spots they like. Rivers ain’t all the same, ya know. Some parts are good, some ain’t worth a darn. I always look for them bends in the river, where the water gets a little deeper. And if you see a spot where one side is steep and the other is flat, that’s a good place to try. Bass like to hide in them spots, waitin’ for somethin’ tasty to swim by. Don’t go trespassin’ on nobody’s land though, that ain’t right. Just stick to where you’re allowed, there’s plenty of fish for everyone.
- Find bends in the river
- Look for steep and flat areas
- Stay where you’re supposed to be
And let me tell ya somethin’ about rocks. Them big ol’ boulders, they ain’t all that great for bass. You want the smaller rocks, the gravelly kind. Why? ‘Cause that’s where all the good stuff is. Them little rocks hold all kinds of dead stuff that attracts minnows and crawfish, and that’s what the bass are after. Plus, them smallmouth bass, they like to lay their eggs on them gravelly spots.
I remember this one time, I was fishin’ down by the river… Well, never mind that story. The point is, you gotta keep movin’ and keep tryin’ different things. Sometimes them bass like one thing, sometimes they like another. You gotta be smarter than the fish, or at least as stubborn as one! If somethin’ ain’t workin’, don’t just sit there like a bump on a log. Change your bait, change your spot, change somethin’!
And don’t forget about them wacky worms. I don’t know why they call ’em wacky, but them bass sure do love ’em. Just let ‘em drift down with the current, and BAM! Fish on! It’s simple, but it works. Fishin’ ain’t always about havin’ the fanciest gear, it’s about knowin’ what them fish want and givin’ it to ’em.
So, there you have it. My two cents on catchin’ bass in the river. It ain’t rocket science, like I said. Just use your common sense, pay attention to what’s goin’ on around you, and don’t be afraid to try new things. And most importantly, have fun! ‘Cause if you ain’t havin’ fun, what’s the point? Now get out there and catch some fish!
Oh, and one more thing. If you hear someone talkin’ about the Snake River and them smallmouth bass, listen up! They say them smallmouths near the Hoback River are somethin’ else. They like them rocky places, so keep an eye out for that. And if you’re lucky, you’ll end up with a whole mess of ’em!
