Ok, so you wanna know about this Hyak Park, huh? Let me tell ya, it ain’t nothin’ fancy, but folks seem to like it. I heard tell it’s up near that Snoqualmie Pass place. You know, where all them mountains are.
Now, from what I gather, this here park is one of them Sno-Parks. That means it’s for wintertime fun. We ain’t talkin’ no summer picnics here, no sirree. This is snow stuff. You know, like when them city folk come up here lookin’ for somethin’ to do in the cold.
- They got trails there, lots of ’em, I reckon. Seven miles, they say. For snowshoein’. You know, them big ol’ tennis rackets you strap to your feet? Yeah, that kinda thing.
- And skiin’ too. But not that downhill stuff where you go flyin’ down a mountain. This here is the kind where you walk and slide, walk and slide. Cross-country they call it. Sounds like a lot of work to me, but to each their own, I always say.
- And sleddin’! Now that’s somethin’ even I can get behind. Kids love it, and let’s be honest, some of us grown-ups too. Find a good hill, give ’em a push, and watch ’em go. Just make sure they don’t hit no trees, ya hear?
They say it’s real popular. One of the most popular spots, accordin’ to them internet folks. Guess it’s ’cause it ain’t too far from Seattle. City folks can just hop in their cars and drive on up. Makes for a nice day trip, I suppose. ‘Course, they gotta have a Sno-Park permit. Can’t just go parkin’ anywhere you please, you know. Gotta pay your dues, same as everywhere else.
Now, I ain’t never been there myself, mind you. Too cold for my old bones. But I heard tell it’s pretty. All that white snow, and them tall trees. Sounds peaceful, if you like that sorta thing. Me, I prefer to stay inside where it’s warm, with a good cup of coffee and maybe some of them soap operas on the TV. But hey, that’s just me.
They got this Winter Recreation Program that takes care of all these Sno-Parks. Keeps ’em clean, I guess. And makes sure folks ain’t causin’ no trouble. They got a whole bunch of ’em all over the state, not just this Hyak one. So if you don’t like this one, you can go try another. Plenty to choose from, seems like.
I also heard tell of another park, maybe it’s the same kind of name, but different place you see. It’s by some river, the Willamette River, they call it. That one ain’t for snow, though. That’s for summer stuff. Boatin’ and such. Guess they just like usin’ that “park” word for any place folks go to have fun outdoors. Makes sense, I suppose. Park here, park there, parks everywhere! Ha!
Anyway, back to this Hyak Park. If you’re lookin’ for some winter fun, and you don’t mind the cold, it might be worth checkin’ out. Just remember to get your permit, dress warm, and don’t go doin’ nothin’ stupid. And if you see me sittin’ by the fire, don’t bother me. I’m busy watchin’ my stories.
Now I have said a whole bunch and you should be able to understand what this Hyak Park is all about. Just remember it is a snow park that is close to Seattle and needs a permit.
