Howdy, y’all! Let’s talk about fishin’, Matagorda way. I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’, just tellin’ you what I hear and what folks been catchin’.
Matagorda Fishin’ – What’s the Big Deal?
Some folks say Matagorda’s a secret fishin’ spot, the best in Texas even. I dunno ’bout all that, but I know folks catch a lot of fish here. You got the bay, the surf, all sorts of places to throw a line. And the fish? Well, they seem to like it here, that’s for sure.
What’s Bitin’ Lately? – Matagorda Fishin’ Report
Now, I ain’t been out there myself lately, my old bones ain’t up for it like they used to be. But I hear things, you know? Folks talkin’ at the bait shop, at the store… Word gets around. So, lemme tell you what I been hearin’ ’bout them fish.
- Redfish: Seems like them redfish are movin’ around. They followin’ the shrimp, headin’ out to the middle of the bay. Big ones and little ones, both bitin’ good, they say. Some folks usin’ silver spoons, catchin’ ’em left and right. Good eatin’, them redfish.
- Trout: Trout’s been good too, out in the middle of the bay. Don’t know what they’re bitin’ on exactly, but folks are catchin’ ’em. Good for fryin’, trout is.
- Black Drum: Them black drum, they like them shell reefs. Plenty of ’em around, if you know where to look. Not as tasty as redfish or trout, some say, but they put up a good fight.
- Flounder: Now, flounder season’s closed, you can’t keep ’em. But they’re still out there, plenty of ’em. Catch and release, you know? Just for fun. They say they’re bitin’ good too.
When’s the Best Time to Go Fishin’?
That’s the million-dollar question, ain’t it? When them fish are bitin’ good. Well, I hear some folks sayin’ there’s an app or somethin’ that tells you when to go. BiteTime, they call it. I ain’t got no smartphone, so I wouldn’t know. But it sounds fancy. Me? I always figured early mornin’ or late evenin’ was best, but what do I know? I’m just an old woman.
Matagorda Surf Fishin’
Don’t forget about the surf fishin’, y’all. You can catch some big ones right off the beach. Redfish, trout, all sorts of things. Just gotta find a good spot, cast your line, and wait. Bring a chair, maybe a beer or two. Make a day of it.
Keepin’ Up with the Fishin’ Reports
Now, if you wanna stay up-to-date on what’s bitin’, you gotta listen to the fishin’ reports. There’s this fella, Zack Shannon, Captain Shannon they call him, he puts out reports all the time. You can find ’em online, I hear. Tells you what he’s catchin’, where he’s catchin’ it. Seems like a smart fella, knows his fishin’.
September and November Fishin’
Heard tell September and November were good months for fishin’ here. Seems like certain fish bite better at different times of the year. But honestly, fishin’ in Matagorda is pretty good most of the time, from what I gather.
Interactive Fishin’ Maps and Other Fancy Stuff
And if you’re really serious ’bout this fishin’ thing, there’s this website, Fishidy they call it, has all sorts of maps and stuff. Show you where to fish, what people are catchin’. Me? I just like to keep it simple, but some folks like all that fancy stuff. To each their own, I say.
Matagorda Bay – A Good Place to Fish
So, there you have it. A little bit about fishin’ in Matagorda. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, but I hear things. And from what I hear, Matagorda’s a pretty good place to throw a line. So, come on down, y’all, and see for yourself. Maybe you’ll catch somethin’ big. And if you do, bring me a piece! Just kiddin’… mostly.
