Alright, let’s talk about them stocked trouts, you know, the ones they put in the water for folks to catch. Are they safe to eat? Well, yeah, mostly. I mean, people eat ’em all the time.
Can you eat stocked trout? Yep, you surely can. Folks catch ’em and eat ’em every day. But, like anything, gotta be a little careful, you know? It ain’t always as simple as catchin’ and fryin’.
Now, some folks get all worried about eatin’ fish. They say, “Oh, they got them… whatchamacallits… PCBs, and that mercury stuff.” And yeah, sometimes they do. That’s why them smarty-pants fellas, the fish doctors or whatever, they say maybe don’t eat too many trouts from the same place all the time. Maybe just once a week, or even just a couple times a month, depends on where you’re at.
- One Meal a Week: Some places, they tell ya, only eat them trouts once a week. That’s what them advisories say, you know, the warnings they put out. They’re tryin’ to keep ya safe, so listen up!
- Once or Twice a Month: Other spots, they say, “Hold your horses, only once or twice a month for them trouts or bass.” See, it all depends on that water, if it’s clean or not.
But listen, don’t let that scare you off too much. Most of the time, them trouts are just fine. You just gotta be smart about it. Like, when you catch one, clean it good. Wash all that blood and guts out with some fresh water. Dry it good with a clean towel. You wouldn’t eat a dirty chicken, would ya? Same thing with a fish.
Then, if you ain’t gonna cook it right away, put it in a bag, one of them zipper bags, you know? Keep it cold. Real cold. Don’t want it goin’ bad on ya. That’ll make ya sick for sure. And nobody wants that.
Now, I heard some folks talkin’ about eatin’ trout raw. Raw fish? Sounds kinda crazy to me, but hey, to each their own, I guess. But if you’re gonna do that, you better be extra careful. Fish can have little critters in ‘em, you know, parasites and bacteria. You don’t want them things crawlin’ around in your belly. That ain’t no fun, let me tell ya. You’ll be stuck in the outhouse for days.
Is trout safe to eat? Mostly, yes. All kinds of trouts, they say you can eat ‘em. Brook trouts, rainbow trouts, brown trouts… they all taste good, especially if they come from a nice clean lake with plenty of them little shrimps for them to eat. Makes ‘em fat and tasty.
Some folks ask, “Can you eat the skin?” Sure, you can eat the skin if you want. Some folks like it crispy. Me? I usually take it off, but that’s just me. You do what you like. It ain’t gonna hurt ya.
And another thing, some folks worry about how they handle the fish. They say, “Oh, don’t put your finger in the gills! Don’t stretch the jaw!” Well, I never paid much mind to that. Just be gentle with ‘em, you know? Don’t go squishin’ the poor thing to death. Treat it with a little respect, even if you are gonna eat it.
So, the long and short of it is, them stocked trouts are usually safe to eat. But, trout safety is important. Pay attention to them advisories. Clean your fish good. Keep it cold. And if you’re gonna eat it raw… well, good luck to ya. Me? I’ll stick to fryin’ mine up nice and crispy with a little bit of salt and pepper. Can’t beat a good fried trout, that’s what I say.
So go on, get yourself outdoors, breathe in some fresh air, have some fun fishin’, and then enjoy a good meal of stocked rainbow trout you caught yourself. Just remember what I told ya, and you’ll be just fine.
Eating stocked trout is a good way to get some healthy food, but just be smart about it. That’s all there is to it. Now go on, get out there and catch some fish!
