Well, howdy there, folks! Let me tell ya ’bout fishin’ at that Prineville Reservoir. I ain’t no fancy fishin’ expert or nothin’, but I’ve been around long enough to know a thing or two about catchin’ fish, ya know?
So, first off, let’s talk about the water level. I heard tell it’s been up and down like a yo-yo. Sometimes it’s plum full, like they say near 100 percent full. Other times, it gets kinda low, like 55 percent or 74 percent. That kinda thing matters, ya see, ‘cause it changes where them fish hang out. When the water’s high, them fish can spread out more. When it’s low, they gotta bunch up, which can be good or bad, dependin’ on where you’re fishin’.
Now, about them trout. Folks been sayin’ the trout fishin’ is just “fair.” That means you might catch some, you might not. It ain’t no guarantee, that’s for sure. You gotta be patient, I tell ya. Sit there, keep your line in the water, and hope for the best. That’s all you can do sometimes.
- Bring your lucky hat! It always helps.
- Don’t forget your worms or your lures. Fish gotta eat!
- And for goodness sake, bring a chair. You don’t wanna be standin’ all day, your legs will get tired.
I also heard some folks talkin’ ‘bout ice fishin’ back in the day. Said they used to go to Prineville and Ochoco for ice fishin’. Now, I ain’t done much ice fishin’ myself, but it sounds cold! You gotta make sure that ice is plenty thick, or you’ll end up takin’ a swim. And that ain’t no good, especially in the winter. You gotta ask around and see if there’s enough ice. Don’t just go out there willy-nilly.
This year, I dunno about the ice. You gotta check on that yourself. Weather’s been kinda crazy lately, so you never know. One day it’s freezin’, the next it’s rainin’. Makes it hard to plan, I tell ya. But if there’s ice, and it’s safe, ice fishin’ can be fun. Just bundle up warm, you hear?
Now, some folks mentioned largemouth bass. I ain’t fished for them much in Prineville, but I heard tell there’s some big ones in other lakes, like Tenmile Lakes. They say them bass like to hide in the weeds. So, if you’re lookin’ for bass, find some weedy spots, and cast your line in there. Use a lure that looks like a little fish or a frog or somethin’. Bass are predators, ya know, they like to chase their food.
Fishin’ ain’t always about catchin’ fish, though. It’s about gettin’ out in the fresh air, enjoyin’ the sunshine, and just relaxin’. It’s a good way to clear your head and forget about your troubles for a while. And if you catch a fish or two, well, that’s just a bonus.
So, if you’re plannin’ a trip to Prineville Reservoir, keep an eye on the water levels. That’s real important. And bring the right gear, whether you’re fishin’ for trout, bass, or whatever. Be patient, and don’t get discouraged if you don’t catch anything right away. Fishin’ takes time. And most importantly, have fun! That’s what it’s all about.
And remember, always be safe out there. Let someone know where you’re goin’, and when you’ll be back. And don’t take any chances. The water can be dangerous if you’re not careful. So be smart, and have a good time. That’s all I gotta say. Happy fishin’!
