Alright, let’s talk about this tuna fishin’ thing in Oregon, you know? I heard some folks sayin’ it’s a big deal, so let me tell you what I know, or what I heard anyways.
Tuna Fishin’ Time in Oregon, When’s it Happenin’?
Now, they say these tuna fish, the albacore ones, they ain’t here all year round. They like to swim around, you see. They start comin’ up to Oregon waters ‘round the end of June, that’s what I heard. So, if you’re plannin’ on catchin’ some, you gotta be there when they are, right?
Some folks, they say July through September is the best time. That’s like the heart of the summer, makes sense. Hot weather, hot fishin’ I guess. But then I heard other folks sayin’ you can still find ‘em in early October. So, it ain’t a real short window, you know?
- June: Fish start showin’ up
- July & August: Best fishin’ time, they say
- September: Still good fishin’
- Early October: Maybe some fish left, maybe not.
Now, some other tuna, the bluefin they call ‘em, they got a different schedule. I heard their fishin’ time starts in June too, but it goes on longer, maybe all the way to November. Six months of fishin’, that’s a long time! But I ain’t sure if they’re talkin’ about Oregon or somewhere else for them bluefin.
Where You Gotta Go to Catch These Tuna?
It ain’t like fishin’ in a pond, you know? You gotta go out a ways. I heard tell you gotta travel 30 miles or more offshore to find these albacore. That’s way out there! You need a good boat for that, not just some little rowboat. You gotta be prepared, I tell ya.
How You Catch ‘Em?
Now, I ain’t no expert fisherman, but I heard they use these things called jigs and plugs. They drag ‘em behind the boat, and the tuna, they bite on ‘em. Sounds kinda fun, I guess, if you like that sort of thing. They say it can be real busy, you know, fish bitin’ all the time. Non-stop action, they call it. Sounds tirin’ to me!
How Many Fish Can You Keep?
They say you can keep 25 of these tuna fish. That’s a lot of fish! Enough to fill up your freezer, they say. But that’s for the regular folks, not the big fishin’ boats, I bet. They probably catch way more than that.
So, What’s the Big Deal About Tuna Fishin’ in Oregon?
Well, I guess it’s a fun thing to do if you like bein’ out on the water and catchin’ big fish. And I heard these tuna, they taste pretty good. Lots of folks like to eat ‘em. So, it’s sport and food, I reckon. But you gotta know what you’re doin’, and you gotta have the right gear, and you gotta go out far. It ain’t for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.
This Year’s Fishin’ – 2024
I heard this year, 2024, the fishin’ started off real good. Folks were catchin’ lots of tuna right from the get-go. That’s good news for them fishermen, I guess. Means they can make some money or fill their freezers, whichever they’re after.
Now, this is just what I heard, you know. I ain’t never been out there tuna fishin’ myself. Too much work for an old lady like me. But if you’re thinkin’ about it, you better do your research and talk to some folks who know what they’re doing. Don’t just go out there blindly. You could get lost or somethin’.
Anyways, that’s the scoop on tuna fishin’ in Oregon, as far as I know it. Hope it helps ya out some.
