Howdy folks, let’s yak about somethin’ I know a thing or two about – fall bass pond fishin’. Yup, when the leaves start turnin’ and the air gets that crisp bite, them bass get all riled up and ready to bite, too. It’s a good time to be out by the pond, I tell ya.
Now, I ain’t no fancy fishin’ expert, but I’ve caught my share of bass in these here ponds, and I know what works. First off, you gotta know what them bass are eatin’. In the fall, they’re lookin’ to fatten up for the winter, so they’re chasin’ after bigger meals. Think minnows, bluegills, that kind of stuff.
So, what kinda lures you gonna use? Well, I like to keep it simple. Some folks get all caught up in fancy names and such, but I say, just give ‘em somethin’ that looks like food.
- Jigs are always a good bet. Them bass see that jig thumpin’ along the bottom, they think it’s an easy meal. I like the ones with a little bit of flash, somethin’ to catch their eye. Black and blue is a good color, seems like they like that.
- Then there’s them square bills. Them things wobble and wiggle like a real fish, makes them bass go crazy. Just crank ‘em slow and steady, let ‘em bump along the bottom, and you’ll get a bite for sure.
- And don’t forget about them chatter baits. Them things make a racket underwater, callin’ them bass in from far and wide. They vibrate like crazy, and them bass just can’t resist. White and chartreuse are good colors for chatter baits, I reckon.
- Some folks like them A-Rigs, look like a whole school of baitfish swimmin’ along. Them bass see that, they think it’s a buffet! But them A-Rigs can be a bit of a hassle to throw, so I don’t use ‘em too much.
- Swim baits are another good choice. They look just like a real fish, and them bass can’t tell the difference. Just cast ‘em out and reel ‘em in slow and steady, and them bass will come a-chargin’.
Now, where you gonna fish? Well, you gotta find where them bass are hangin’ out. In the fall, they like to hang around cover, like weeds, rocks, and logs. They’re lookin’ for ambush points, places where they can hide and wait for their prey to come swimmin’ by.
So, you gotta cast your lure near that cover, get it right in their faces. And don’t be afraid to try different things. If one lure ain’t workin’, try another one. And if one spot ain’t producin’, move to another one. That’s the key to fishin’ – keep movin’, keep tryin’ new things, until you find what works.
Another thing to think about is the time of day. Early mornin’ and late evenin’ are usually the best times to fish for bass. Them bass are more active in the cooler temperatures, and they’re more likely to be bitin’. But you can catch ‘em all day long, too, if you know what you’re doin’.
And let’s not forget about the weather. A little bit of wind can be good, it stirs up the water and makes them bass more active. But too much wind can make it hard to fish, and them bass might hunker down and not bite as much. And a cloudy day can be good, too, them bass ain’t as spooky when the sun ain’t beatin’ down on ‘em.
But most important thing is to have fun. Fishin’ ain’t just about catchin’ fish, it’s about bein’ outdoors, enjoyin’ nature, and relaxin’. So don’t get too stressed out if you ain’t catchin’ nothin’. Just keep castin’, keep tryin’, and eventually you’ll get a bite. And when you do, it’ll all be worth it. There ain’t nothin’ like the feel of a big ol’ bass on the end of your line, I tell ya. It’ll make you feel like a kid again.
Now, if your pond ain’t got many bass, you might need to do somethin’ about it. Sometimes you gotta take out some of the small bass so the bigger ones can grow. Or maybe you need to put in some more bluegills for them bass to eat. And feedin’ them bass can help too, makes ‘em grow faster and have more babies. It all sounds complicated, but it ain’t really. Just gotta give them bass what they need to thrive.
So, there you have it, a few tips on fall bass pond fishin’ from an old woman who’s spent her fair share of time by the water. Just remember to keep it simple, find where them bass are hangin’ out, and most importantly, have fun. And don’t forget to bundle up, it gets chilly out there in the fall. Now go on, get out there and catch some fish!
