I reckon any hook that’s pointy will do, but them fancy fellas swear by them EWG hooks. They say a 3/0 size is good, whatever that means. Just get a hook that looks strong, and you’ll be alright. Don’t go spendin’ all your money on fancy hooks, now. A fish don’t care how much you paid for that hook, long as it’s got a worm on it.
Then you need a weight, somethin’ to make that worm sink down. They call ’em “bullet weights” ’cause, well, they look like a bullet. Get yourself a few different sizes, ’cause sometimes them fish are deep, and sometimes they ain’t. You gotta be ready for anything. I usually just use a weight that feels right, you know? Not too heavy, not too light. Just enough to get that worm down there where the fish are.

There’s all kinds of fancy knots you can tie, but I just use a good ol’ knot that holds tight. Ain’t no need to get fancy, like I said. Then you take that worm and you thread it onto the hook. Make sure it’s on there good, so it don’t come off when you’re castin’. And that’s it, you got yourself a worm rig.
Where to Use This Here Worm Rig
Now, where to use this worm rig? Well, that depends on where them fish are hangin’ out. Sometimes they’re in the weeds, sometimes they’re around the trees, sometimes they’re out in the open. You gotta try different spots till you find ’em. This here “Texas riggin’” is good for when them fish are hidin’ in the weeds and such. It lets you get that worm right in there without gettin’ hung up too much. Now, if you’re fishin’ in a big open spot, like a big ol’ lake, some folks use somethin’ called a “Carolina rig.” It’s kinda like a Texas rig, but the weight is a little further up the line. It lets the worm float around a little more. But we ain’t talkin’ about that today. We’re talkin’ about worm riggin’, plain and simple.
Fishin’ Time! Throw that Worm Out There!
So, you got your worm rig all set up, you found a good spot, now it’s time to fish. You cast that worm out there, let it sink down to the bottom, and then you slowly reel it in. You gotta be patient, now. Them fish ain’t always gonna bite right away. Sometimes you gotta jiggle that worm a little bit, make it look alive. And when you feel that tug, that’s when the fun starts. You set that hook good and hard, and you reel that fish in. And that’s all there is to it, folks. Worm riggin’ ain’t nothin’ fancy, but it sure does catch fish.
Keep it Simple, Keep it Fishin’
