Alright, so you wanna know about them lakes near McMinnville, Oregon, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, I ain’t no fancy city slicker, but I know a thing or two about gettin’ around and finding a good spot to wet a line or just sit and enjoy the quiet.
First off, there’s this Hagg Lake place. Folks call it a lake, but it’s more like a big ol’ pond to me. Plenty of fishin’, they say, but you gotta know where to go. It ain’t always easy catchin’ somethin’. They got other stuff too, like walkin’ trails and places to throw them frisbees. You know, them disc golf things? Kids seem to like ‘em.
- Hagg Lake: Fishin’, walkin’, frisbee golf
- Willamina City Park Pond: Easy fishin’ for them rainbow trouts
Then there’s this little pond over in Willamina. City park pond, they call it. Now that’s a place you can catch some fish, easy peasy. They stock it with them rainbow trouts, pretty little things they are. Good eatin’ too, if you catch my drift. It’s just a small place, but it’s nice and quiet.
Now, McMinnville itself ain’t exactly overflowing with lakes, you hear? It’s more about them hills and vineyards. Folks come here for the wine, not so much for the swimmin’. But if you look around a bit, there’s other places not too far off. Yamhill County, that’s where you gotta look. They say there’s a bunch of lakes over there, twelve of ‘em I heard. Can’t say I’ve seen ‘em all myself, but they’re on the maps, ya know?
Some folks like to go up to Silver Falls State Park. It ain’t right in McMinnville, but it ain’t too far neither. They got waterfalls and trails and such. Pretty place to look at, but I don’t know much about fishin’ there. More for lookin’ than hookin’, if you get my meanin’. And there’s this Wilson River place too, folks go fishin’ there too.
You gotta understand, livin’ out here, you learn to make do with what you got. Ain’t always gonna be some fancy resort or a perfect lake right outside your door. Sometimes you gotta drive a bit, or walk a bit, or just be happy with a little pond and a few fish. That’s the way it is.
Bethany Lake Park, that’s another one they mention. And Commonwealth Lake Park. I ain’t been to them myself, but I heard city folks talk about ‘em. Probably got paved paths and all that fancy stuff. Me? I like things a little more… natural, you know? Dirt paths and quiet spots, that’s where I like to be.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a lake near McMinnville, you got some options. Hagg Lake for a bigger place with lots to do, Willamina pond for some easy fishin’, and then a whole bunch of others scattered around Yamhill County if you’re willin’ to explore a bit. Just remember, it ain’t always about the destination, sometimes it’s about the journey. And sometimes, the best fishin’ spots are the ones you find yourself, not the ones everyone else is talkin’ about.
And don’t forget, you can always just ask around. Stop by the local bait shop or the diner, and talk to the folks who live here. They’ll tell ya where the good spots are, the places the maps don’t always show. That’s the best way to find a good lake, in my opinion. Word of mouth, that’s what counts out here in the country.
So get out there and explore, and don’t be afraid to get your feet a little muddy. That’s the best way to find a good lake, and maybe even catch a fish or two. Good luck to ya!
