Well, folks, let me tell ya, fall’s a funny time for bass fishin’. The weather’s changin’, and them fish, they know it. Early fall, you might still find them bass sittin’ deep in the water, like they ain’t ready to come up yet. But as that cool air creeps in, and the water starts to drop a bit, they start movin’ to them shallows. It’s like they gettin’ ready for the big winter sleep, but before that, they get real hungry, so it’s a good time to catch ’em.
Now, y’all might be wonderin’, “How do I catch them bass?” Well, lemme tell ya, you got to be smart about it. Early fall is a bit tricky ‘cause the water’s still warm in some places, but them fish ain’t all in the same spot. They like to hide in deeper waters at first, but as October rolls around, they start comin’ up closer to the shore. That’s when you can really catch ‘em good, right before the sun sets, when the water’s all nice and calm.
One of the best tricks I know is to fish ‘em with something called a finesse worm. It’s a little bitty thing, but don’t let that fool ya. Them bass love it. I’ll tell ya, when the water’s a little cooler, that worm’s the ticket. You just gotta let it sit in the water, and wait for the bass to take a bite. You don’t need to rush things, no sir. Just a little patience, and before long, you’ll have that fish on your line.
Now, if you’re lookin’ for a bit more action, you might want to try them crankbaits. I’m talkin’ about the lipless crankbaits and them square bills. Them little baits are real good in the fall. You just gotta throw ‘em out there and reel ‘em in steady, not too fast, not too slow. You’ll get the bass to come on up for it. And if that ain’t workin’, try a jerkbait, or a spinnerbait—them things really make the bass wanna chase after ‘em.
Now, a lot of folks don’t realize, but bass get a bit crazy when the sun starts to go down. Just before night falls, them fish come outta their hiding spots and start lookin’ for a good meal. That’s the time to be out there, with your line in the water. Some folks might think early morning’s the best time, but in fall, right before dark is where the action’s at. If the temperature drops down into the 40s and 50s at night, you might wanna wait until midday or late afternoon, when the water’s warmed up just a little.
October’s a good month for fishin’, folks. The weather’s usually steady, not too hot, not too cold. And them bass, they know it. They start actin’ like they’re in that fall pattern when the water temperature drops to about 70 degrees. It ain’t long before they start movin’ around, lookin’ for food, and that’s when you want to be ready. The bite really picks up once the lakes turn over, right before the ice comes in. You got that whole period where the fish are active, so make sure you get your line in the water while you can.
So, remember folks, fall bass fishin’ ain’t all that complicated. Just keep your eyes on the water, use them right lures, and be patient. The fish are comin’ closer to the shore, and they’re hungry. With a little bit of luck, you’ll be bringin’ home a nice big bass for dinner.
