Alright, let’s talk about this crabbin’ stuff in Washington, you know, like them crabbing charters Washington folks keep talkin’ about. I heard some things, seen some things, and I’m gonna tell ya all about it, the way I see it.
First off, them crabs, they ain’t always there for the takin’. You gotta know when to go. I heard tell it’s open all year-round on the coast, but there’s this time, September, October, and November, when them soft-shell crabs need a break. So, they close up the pot gear season in some places. Makes sense, I guess. Gotta let the little fellas grow up, right?
But don’t you worry none, you can still catch crabs even then. They got these snare things, and foldable traps, and them ring nets that lay flat on the bottom. Sneaky little buggers, them crabs, but we’re sneakier! I always say, “If you wanna catch a crab, you gotta think like a crab!” Makes sense, right? You wouldn’t go lookin’ for a chicken in a pigpen, would ya?
- Now, about them gear limits, that’s important. Don’t wanna go breakin’ no rules, or them wardens will be on ya like a fly on… well, you know.
- For shrimp, it’s two pots per person, and no more than four on a boat.
- For crabs, it’s two units of crab gear per person. That’s what I heard, anyways. Always good to double-check, though. Don’t want no trouble.
Now, I ain’t never been on one of them fancy charters myself. Too much money for this old lady. But I seen ’em, and I heard they’re popular. Folks go out on a boat, and someone else does all the hard work. They set the traps, they pull ’em up, and you just sit there and enjoy the ride. Sounds nice, I guess, if you got the money. But I always liked doin’ things myself. More satisfaction that way, you know?
If you’re thinkin’ about goin’ on a crab fishing charter, you gotta do your homework. Find a good one. Ask around. Don’t just jump on the first boat you see. Some of them fellas, they ain’t honest, you know? They’ll take your money and you won’t catch a thing. Gotta be careful. This world’s full of tricksters. I always say, “Trust your gut. If it don’t feel right, it probably ain’t.”
And remember, dress warm! It gets cold out on that water, even in the summer. You don’t wanna be shiverin’ your teeth out while you’re tryin’ to catch crabs. Wear layers, that’s what I always do. You can always take somethin’ off if you get too hot, but you can’t put on somethin’ you ain’t got. Makes sense, don’t it?
And bring snacks! You know, somethin’ to munch on while you’re waitin’ for them crabs to bite. A sandwich, maybe some fruit. And somethin’ to drink, water’s always good. Stay hydrated, that’s what the doctors say. And sunscreen! Don’t forget the sunscreen. The sun can be strong out on the water, even on a cloudy day. You don’t want to look like a cooked lobster yourself.
So, there you have it. That’s what I know about crabbing charters in Washington. It’s a fun thing to do, I guess, if you like that sort of thing. Me? I prefer to stay on dry land, but that’s just me. You young folks, you go on and have your fun. Just be safe, be smart, and follow the rules. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll catch yourself a big ol’ crab. Good eatin’, them crabs.
And another thing, this whole Washington Coast is a big place. Lots of spots for catching crabs. You just gotta find the right spot, you know, the one where the crabs like to hang out. Talk to the locals, they usually know the best spots. Or, well, if you’re taking the charter, then you don’t need to worry so much; the captain will know where to go. They better, for what they’re charging!
And bring a bucket, or somethin’ to put them crabs in. You don’t wanna just be throwin’ ’em on the deck of the boat, that’s for sure. Make sure it’s a good sturdy bucket, too. Them crabs are strong, they can break right through a flimsy one. And bring some gloves, too, unless you want your fingers pinched! Them crab claws ain’t no joke.
Alright, I think that’s about all I got to say about crabbing. It ain’t rocket science, you know? Just go out there, have fun, and don’t be a dummy. And bring home some crabs for dinner! I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. Fresh crab, with a little bit of butter… oh, that’s good eatin’!
