Alright, let’s talk about them tides down at Alsea Bay, yeah? 2023, that’s what they say. I ain’t got no fancy watch or nothin’, but I know a thing or two about when the water comes in and when it goes out. You gotta know, see? Especially if you’re gonna go fishin’ or somethin’.
Now, they got these charts and stuff, tide charts they call ’em. Says when the high tide is and when the low tide is. For Waldport, that’s right there on Alsea Bay, they say the high tide can get pretty high, like, 8.2 feet or somethin’. That’s a lot of water, let me tell ya. And the low tide, well, that can go down real low, almost to nothin’ sometimes.
- High Tide: Water comes way up, covers the rocks and stuff.
- Low Tide: Water goes way out, you can see all the mud and critters.
They say the tide, it goes up and down, up and down, all day and night. It’s like the ocean breathin’ or somethin’. And it ain’t always the same time every day. That’s why you gotta look at them charts, or you might get stuck out there on the rocks when the water comes in. Wouldn’t be the first time, I tell ya.
They got these places, up north they say, where you can see the real big tides, the king tides they call ’em. Graveyard of the Pacific, Haystack Rock, places like that. Down here, we got our own spots, like that Spoutin’ Horn, Seal Rock, you know? Water comes in real fast, whoosh, just like that.
Now, if you’re plannin’ on goin’ fishin’, you gotta know them tides. Can’t catch no fish when the water’s all gone, can ya? The fish, they come in with the tide, lookin’ for food. So, you gotta be there when they are. And you gotta be careful, too. That water can be strong, pull ya right off your feet if you ain’t payin’ attention.
I heard tell you can download somethin’, a tide guide or somethin’, on your phone or whatever. Tells you all about the tides and the weather and stuff. Fancy, ain’t it? Back in my day, we just looked at the moon and the sky. But I guess times change.
They talk about the tidal coefficient too. Sounds fancy, but it just means how strong the tide is gonna be. Big number, strong tide. Little number, not so strong. Simple as that.
So, whether you’re fishin’, or clam diggin’, or just lookin’ at the pretty water, you gotta know them tides. Alsea Bay, 2023, or any year for that matter. The water goes in, the water goes out. That’s just the way it is. And remember, highest tide was somethin’ like 8.2 meters, that’s a whole lotta water, and the lowest, well, it went way down. You gotta be smart about it, that’s all.
And don’t forget, them tides, they change all the time. One day it’s high in the mornin’, next day it’s high in the afternoon. Keeps ya on your toes, I tell ya. But that’s part of the fun, I guess. Seein’ what the ocean’s gonna do next. It’s a whole lot of water movin’ around, and you gotta respect it.
So, there you have it. A little somethin’ about the tides down at Alsea Bay. Nothin’ fancy, just the way I see it. You wanna know more, you go look at them charts or somethin’. Me, I’m gonna go sit on the porch and watch the water go by.
