Howdy, folks! Let me tell ya ’bout fishin’ on Lake Conroe. I ain’t no fancy fisherman, just an old gal who likes to wet a line. But I know a thing or two ’bout catchin’ fish, ya hear?
Lake Conroe, she’s a good ‘un for fishin’, that’s for sure. Folks say it’s one of the best in Texas, and I reckon they ain’t lyin’. Water’s a bit stained, ya know, not all clear and pretty like some places. But the fish, they don’t seem to mind none.
Now, if you’re after catfish, you’re in luck. Them catfish, they’re bitin’ like crazy! I’m talkin’ big ones too. You can use all sorts of things to catch ’em. Some folks like that catfish Bubblegum stuff, smells kinda funny if ya ask me. But it works! And then there’s the old standbys: liver, worms, and that punch bait. You can just drop your line in a baited hole and wait, or you can drift around with some natural bait. Either way, you’re likely to catch somethin’. I heard some folks say Catfish can be found all over the lake and specially in the early mornin’, evenin’, or night, they can be targeted from shore.
Bass fishin’ is pretty good too. You can find ’em up shallow, or out deeper near the structures and where them shad schools hang out. I ain’t too fancy with my bass fishin’. Just throw a line out there and see what bites. Folks talkin’ about spinner baits and such, but I just use what I got.
Crappie, now them’s some tasty fish. You gotta go a bit deeper for crappie, ’bout 25 feet or so. Find some brush down there and drop your line. Live minnows work real well, or you can use them black and chartreuse grubs. I saw some young’uns using that and they were catchin’ a mess of ‘em.
- Good Fishin’ Spots: Look for riprap, stumps, and brush piles. Them fish like to hide around there. Anywhere around the lake can be good for catfish.
- Best Time to Fish: Well, anytime you can get out there is a good time! But early mornin’ and evenin’ are usually pretty good. And if you’re after catfish, don’t be afraid to stay out late.
Now, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout hybrid striped bass. Seems like they’re gettin’ more popular. You can catch ’em pretty much anytime of year, they say. Most folks troll for ’em in open water, or drop a line straight down. They are growing in popularity among Lake Conroe anglers.
The water temperature’s been around 66 degrees, they say, and the water level’s a bit low, ’bout 1.26 feet below pool. But that don’t seem to bother the fish none. They’re still bitin’.
Even after a cold front comes through, the bass are still bitin’. That’s what I heard from some fellers down at the bait shop. They said the bass get more aggressive when the water cools down a bit.
You can go fishin’ for a whole day, or just half a day. Plenty of folks offer fishin’ trips if you don’t have your own boat. They’ll take you out for bass, catfish, or even them hybrid bass. Fishing trips for all areas of the Lake. Full day and half day fishing trips for bass, catfish, hybrid bass.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a good place to go fishin’, come on down to Lake Conroe. It ain’t fancy, but the fishin’s good. And that’s all that matters, right? You don’t need all that fancy gear and all them fancy words. Just get yourself a pole, some bait, and get out there. Lake Conroe fishin’ near Conroe is pretty darn good, ya hear?
Well, that’s about all I got to say ‘bout fishin’ on Lake Conroe. Hope it helps ya catch some fish. Now get out there and wet a line!
