Alright, let’s talk about catchin’ them bass in early summer, you know, when it’s gettin’ hot but not too hot yet. I ain’t no fancy fisherman, but I’ve caught my share, ya hear?
Early Summer Bass Fishing – The Basics
First off, you gotta know where them bass are hangin’ out. In early summer, they ain’t too deep yet. They like to be near the weeds, you know, where they can hide and jump out at them little fishes. So, look for the green stuff, the lily pads, the reeds, that’s where they’ll be.
- Look for weeds and green stuff
- They ain’t too deep in early summer
- Think about where the little fishes hide
Now, let’s talk about them lures. My grandson, he’s got all these fancy lures with names I can’t even say. But you don’t need all that fancy stuff. A few good ones are all you need.
Good Lures for Early Summer Bass
One thing that works real good is them spinnerbaits. You know, the ones with the shiny blades that spin around and make a fuss? Bass, they can’t resist that flash and noise. Just throw it out there and reel it in, not too fast, not too slow. Just steady like.
Another good one is them crankbaits. They dive down a bit, you know, wiggle around like a real fish. Get one that looks like a crawfish, them bass love to eat crawfish. Or get a bright-colored one, like that chartreuse color my grandson talks about. Says it looks like them bluegill, and bass love to eat them too.
And then there’s them topwater lures. Oh, them are fun! You throw ’em out there and they float on top. Then you twitch ’em and pop ’em, and the bass just explode on ’em! My favorite is a buzz bait, make a big fuss on top of the water. Another good one is a Zoom Horny Toad, makes a big splash when the fish hits.
- Spinnerbaits – shiny and noisy
- Crankbaits – look like crawfish or bluegill
- Topwater lures – fun to watch the bass hit! Buzz baits and Zoom Horny Toads are good.
Now, some folks like to use them plastic worms and lizards. You just kinda drag ’em along the bottom, slow and easy. Them bass, they think it’s a real worm or lizard and they gobble it up. And then there’s them Senkos, kinda like a worm but fatter. My grandson says they’re real good, but I ain’t used ’em much myself.
Fishing Habits and Time of Day
You know, fishin’ is kinda like anything else, you gotta get in a habit. You gotta go out there regular, learn the water, learn where them bass like to hang out. Same time each morning, if you can. That’s when they’re hungry.
But don’t just go out there willy-nilly. Think about it. Where’s the sun? Where’s the shade? Them bass, they don’t like it too bright. They like to be in the shade, under the weeds, in the deeper water when the sun is high. So early morning and late evening are the best, when the sun ain’t so strong.
And pay attention to the weather. If it’s been rainin’, the water might be muddy. Them bass, they can’t see so good in muddy water, so you gotta use something bright or noisy to get their attention. And if it’s hot and sunny, they’ll be deeper, looking for cooler water.
Keep it Simple, Stupid!
Look, you don’t need to spend a fortune on fancy gear. Just get yourself a decent rod and reel, some good line, and a few of them lures I talked about. And then get out there and fish! That’s the only way to learn. Don’t be afraid to try different things, different lures, different spots. And don’t get discouraged if you don’t catch anything right away. Fishin’ takes patience.
And one more thing, don’t forget to bring a hat and some sunscreen. The sun can be brutal out there on the water. And bring some snacks and something to drink, you don’t want to get hungry or thirsty. And most important, have some fun! That’s what fishin’ is all about, enjoyin’ the outdoors and maybe catchin’ a few bass along the way.
Early summer bass fishing, don’t need all that fancy stuff. Find the weeds, use a few good lures and fish when it ain’t too hot. Keep it simple, and you’ll catch some fish. That’s all there is to it, ya hear?
