Alright, let’s talk about fishin’ in that Lake Moultrie down in South Carolina. I ain’t no fancy fisherman, mind you, just an old woman who’s been throwin’ a line in the water for longer than I care to remember. But I know a thing or two about catchin’ fish, and I hear tell Lake Moultrie is a good place to do it.
What kind of fish you gonna find there? Well, they say there’s plenty of them Largemouth Bass. Big ol’ things, they put up a good fight, I hear. Then you got your Striped Bass, those are fun to catch too. And catfish! Lord, I love me some catfish. Fried, grilled, doesn’t matter, they’re all good eatin’. They got them Crappie too, little fellers but tasty. Some folks even catch smallmouth bass, trout and them hybrids, whatever those are. Sounds fancy to me.
- Largemouth Bass: Big and fightin’
- Striped Bass: Fun to catch, good eatin’
- Catfish: Oh, honey, the best eatin’ fish there is!
- Crappie: Small, but good for fryin’ up.
Now, when’s the best time to go fishin’? Well, I always say the earlier the better. Get yourself out there before the sun gets too high, that’s when the fish are bitin’. Course, you can catch ’em anytime, but early mornin’ is my favorite. Somethin’ peaceful about bein’ out on the water when the world’s still wakin’ up.
They say Lake Moultrie is a big ol’ lake, just like its neighbor, Lake Marion. And just like Lake Marion, it’s got some big fish. I heard tell they got them blue catfish, them’s some monsters! Big as a dog, some of ‘em. And you know what else they got? Alligators. Big ones too. Now, I ain’t too fond of gators, but they say they mostly leave you alone if you don’t bother ‘em. Still, I’d keep a close eye out, just in case.
I hear tell some folks use them buzzbaits and crankbaits to catch them bass, especially in the fall, like November time. I don’t know much about that fancy stuff. I just use worms and crickets, mostly. Works just fine for me. But if you want to get all technical, go ahead and use them fancy lures. Just make sure you know how to use ‘em.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a good place to go fishin’, Lake Moultrie might just be the place for you. Plenty of fish, big ones too. Just remember to get there early, keep an eye out for them gators, and bring plenty of bait. And don’t forget your sunscreen, that sun can be fierce down there in South Carolina. And bring a hat, keeps the sun outta your eyes and the bugs outta your hair. Oh, and a good fishin’ pole, can’t forget that! And a cooler to put your fish in, unless you want ‘em floppin’ around all over the place.
They say Santee Cooper Country, where Lake Moultrie is at, has some of the best fishin’ in the whole state. That’s sayin’ somethin’, cause South Carolina has a lot of good fishin’ spots. So, if you’re ever down that way, give Lake Moultrie a try. You might just catch yourself a big one.
And one last thing, don’t forget to check them fishing reports before you go. They tell you what’s bitin’ and where. Saves you a lot of time and trouble, you know? Ain’t nothin’ worse than sittin’ out there all day and not catchin’ nothin’. So, be smart, do your homework, and you’ll have a good time.
Now, I ain’t been down there myself, but I heard enough stories to know it’s a good place to fish. So, go on, get yourself down there and see for yourself. And if you catch a big one, send me a picture! I like seein’ them big fish, even if I didn’t catch ‘em myself.
