Alright, let’s talk about this here Penn Pursuit 4 reel, you know, the thing you use for catchin’ fish. I ain’t no fancy fisherman, but I know a good reel when I see one, and this one… well, it ain’t half bad.
First off, they say it’s good for saltwater fishin’. Now, I ain’t messed with that much, mostly just pond fishin’ around here. But they say it can handle the salt, which is good, I guess. Means it won’t rust up on ya too quick, like some of them cheap reels they sell at the dollar store. Them things ain’t worth a plugged nickel, lemme tell ya. What kinda fish can you catch with it?
- Them little ones, like 3000 or 4000, they say is good for bass and them redfish. Never seen a redfish myself, but I hear they put up a good fight.
- Then you got the bigger ones, 4500 to 5500, for catfish and pike. Now, catfish, them I know. Big ol’ slimy things, they are. Gotta have a good reel to haul them in, or they’ll snap your line quicker than a squirrel up a tree.
- And if you’re goin’ after the real monsters, the big muskies and whatnot, you need the 6000 and up. Them reels is big enough to winch a car outta a ditch, I reckon.
I seen a fella on the YouTube, he was usin’ this reel, or one like it, for saltwater fishin’. He said it was a good deal, cost him less than a hundred bucks for the whole set up – the rod and the reel and all. Now, that ain’t bad, seein’ as how some of them fancy reels cost more than my old pickup truck. He was catchin’ some pretty good sized fish too, so I guess it does the job.
This reel, it’s got what they call a “powerful drag system.” I ain’t exactly sure what that means, but I reckon it means it’s strong. You know, when a fish pulls hard, the reel lets out some line so it don’t snap. This one, it does that good, I hear. You don’t want a reel that just breaks on ya when you get a big one on the line, now do ya?
It ain’t perfect, mind you. The fella on the YouTube, he said you can’t dunk it in the water. Said it ain’t made for that. Well, I ain’t never dunked my reel on purpose anyway, so I guess that ain’t a big deal. But it’s somethin’ to keep in mind, I suppose. Don’t go droppin’ it in the lake, or you might be outta luck.
So, is it a good reel?
Well, like I said, I ain’t no expert. But from what I hear, and from what I seen, it seems like a pretty good reel for the money. It’s strong, it can handle some big fish, and it won’t break the bank. If you’re lookin’ for a reel that’ll get the job done without costin’ you an arm and a leg, this Penn Pursuit 4 might just be the ticket. Just remember, don’t go dunkin’ it in the water, and you should be alright. Now, go on and catch yourself a big one!
Why I think it’s good, plain and simple:
It feels strong in your hand, not like some flimsy piece of plastic. You can tell it’s made of good stuff, metal and all. And the handle, it turns smooth, not all jerky and sticky. That’s important, see, when you’re reeling in a big fish, you want it to be smooth and easy. This reel, it does that. And like I said before, it don’t cost a fortune. These days, everything’s so darn expensive, it’s nice to find something that’s good quality but don’t cost you a whole paycheck.
And another thing, it seems like it’d be easy to use, even for someone like me who ain’t got all the fancy fishin’ gear. Just put some line on it, tie on a hook and a sinker, and you’re good to go. Sometimes, them fancy reels, they got all sorts of buttons and levers and dials, and I just can’t figure them out. This one, it seems pretty straightforward, which is good. I like things simple. Simple and strong, that’s what I say. And this here Penn Pursuit, it seems to fit the bill.
