Well, lemme tell ya, the fishin’ out there in Charleston, it’s been somethin’ else lately. Folks been catchin’ a whole mess of ’em, that’s for sure.
Heard tell some fellas went out to that 60′ Reef, ’bout 17 miles out, you know. Said they pulled up a bunch of Seabass, them Cobia, and some Kingfish too. One fella even swore he saw a Barracuda, big as a dog, and some Grouper, fat as a hog. Them reefs, they’re like underwater cities for the fish, I tell ya.
Then there’s that Comanche Reef, a bit further out. Don’t know much ’bout it myself, but I reckon it’s just as good. These young’uns with their fancy boats and fish finders, they go out there and come back with coolers full.
Folks been askin’ ’bout pictures, you know, wantin’ to see what’s bein’ caught. They share ’em online, on them ARS things. I don’t rightly understand it, all that internet stuff, but it’s how they do things now. They even talk about who’s got the best boats, them big “sporties” they call ’em, for charterin’. Seems like a lot of fuss to me, but I guess it matters to some.
- Now, if you’re goin’ out deep sea fishin’, them big Sea Bass are bitin’ good. Heard tell they’re catchin’ their limits, that’s as many as they’re allowed, you see. Big ones too, not just them little fellas.
- And closer to shore, them Redfish, they’re hittin’ on light tackle. Springtime’s a good time for ’em, they say. Makes sense, everything’s wakin’ up after the winter, even the fish.
One fella I know, he went out and found a weed line, you know, where the seaweed all gathers up. Stayed out there most of the day, trollin’ along. Said he was fishin’ in water ’bout 450 to 550 feet deep. And wouldn’t you know it, he hauled in 17 Mahi-Mahi! Seventeen! Them Mahi, they’re pretty fish, all colorful and such. And they taste mighty good too.
The weather’s been a bit up and down, though. Sun comes out, then it hides behind the clouds. Wind picks up, then it calms down. That’s just how it is out there on the water. You gotta be prepared for anything. But the fish, they don’t seem to mind much. They’re always hungry, it seems.
So, if you’re thinkin’ ’bout goin’ fishin’ in Charleston, I’d say go ahead and do it. Plenty of fish to be caught, that’s for sure. Just gotta find the right spot, use the right bait, and have a little bit of luck. And don’t forget to bring a cooler, ’cause you’re gonna need it!
And remember, be safe out there. The ocean, she’s a powerful thing. Respect her, and she’ll treat you right. Most of the time, anyways.
That’s all I got to say ’bout it. Go on out there and catch yourselves some fish!
