Alright, listen up, y’all. Gonna tell ya a thing or two ’bout fishin’ out there near that Depoe Bay place. I ain’t no fancy writer or nothin’, just tellin’ it like it is, the way I see it.
So, you wanna go fishin’ in Depoe Bay? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t no walk in the park. You gotta know what you’re doin’, or you’ll come back empty-handed, and that ain’t no fun.
First off, you gotta decide what kinda fish you’re after. Them folks in Depoe Bay, they got all sorts. Heard tell of some big ol’ halibut swimmin’ around out there. And lingcod too, them ugly fellers, but they taste mighty fine fried up with some taters.
Now, if you’re feelin’ lucky, you might try for some salmon. Them Chinooks, they’re the big ones, fight like heck, but boy, are they good eatin’. And if it’s summertime, you might even run into some tuna. Heard them yellowfin tuna put up a real good fight.
- Fishin’ from the shore? Well, good luck to ya. You might catch somethin’, but the big ones are usually further out.
- Got a boat? That’s better. You can get out to where the fish are. Just be careful, the ocean ain’t no joke.
- Best bet? A charter boat. Yeah, them fellas know what they’re doin’. They’ll take you to the best spots, and they’ll have all the gear you need. Worth the money, if you ask me. Dockside Charters, I heard they’re pretty good. Friendly folks, they say.
When’s the best time to go? Well, spring and summer, that’s when the water warms up and the fish come out to play. Early mornin’ is good, before the sun gets too high. But any time you can get out there is better than sittin’ at home watchin’ the grass grow.
Depoe Bay, they call it the “Whale Watchin’ Capital” or somethin’ like that. So, you might see some whales while you’re out there fishin’. Ain’t that somethin’? Big ol’ whales swimmin’ right alongside your boat. Just don’t let ‘em tip you over, now. Heard that Coos Bay down south is good for tuna too, but that’s a ways away.
Now, some folks like to fish near the bottom, for them lingcod and rockfish. That’s called bottom fishin’. Other folks, they like to drag their lines behind the boat, that’s called trollin’. They do that for salmon and tuna. Each way is different, you gotta figure out what you like best.
And don’t forget Newport. It’s not too far from Depoe Bay, and I hear tell they got good halibut fishin’ out there, ‘bout 32 miles out. If you wanna go further for Tuna, they say 35-45 miles. So many places to fish around here, makes my head spin.
So, there you have it. A little bit of what I know about fishin’ in Depoe Bay. It ain’t rocket science, but you gotta be smart, you gotta be patient, and you gotta be a little bit lucky. But mostly you gotta be out there, that’s the only way you’re gonna catch any fish. And remember, be safe out there on that water. The ocean, she don’t play nice.
Now go on and get yourself out there and catch some fish! And don’t forget to bring some extra for your old granny, ya hear?
