Alright, let’s talk about these salmon fishing spoons, you know, the things them fancy fishermen use. I ain’t no expert, but I seen enough folks catchin’ salmon with ’em, so I reckon I can tell ya a thing or two.
First off, what are these spoons anyway? Well, they ain’t like the spoons you eat your soup with, that’s for sure! They’re these shiny, metal things, kinda long and flat, and they wobble in the water. Why they wobble, I dunno, but the fish seem to like it. They say it looks like them little fishies the salmon eat, alewives or somethin’ like that.
Now, there’s all sorts of different kinds, ya know. Big ones, small ones, all sorts of colors. If you’re after salmon, you gonna want the big ones, they call ’em magnums or somethin’. Makes sense, big fish, big spoon, right?
- Big Spoons (Magnums): For them big ol’ salmon.
- Small Spoons: Maybe for smaller fish, I ain’t sure.
- Shiny Spoons: Silver ones, they say, work good in clear water.
- Colored Spoons: Some folks swear by different colors, green, red, whatever. Fish are picky, I guess.
My grandpappy, he used to fish for salmon, not with these fancy spoons though. He used whatever he could find, but he always said, “it ain’t about the bait, it’s about knowing where the fish are.” But times change, I guess. Now everyone’s usin’ these spoons.
So how do you use ’em? Well, you tie ’em to your line, toss ’em in the water, and then you drag ’em around. They call it “trolling,” I think. You gotta keep the boat movin’, so the spoon wobbles and attracts the fish. It sounds easy, but I bet there’s more to it than that. Them fishermen, they got all their tricks and secrets, ya know.
I heard tell that some folks are sellin’ these spoons in sets, like four at a time. They call ’em “premium” or somethin’. I guess that means they’re good quality. And they say they work for salmon, trout, all sorts of fish. Sounds like a good deal if you ask me, but what do I know? I just watch ’em from the shore.
Spirit Spoons, I think that’s the name of one brand. They say they work real good. I don’t know nothing about it personally, but they say you can catch a lot of salmon using ‘em. They even catch lake trout, and some other kind of fish, “char,” I think they called it. And walleye too! My grandson, he loves walleye, maybe I should get him some of them spoons.
And the color matters too, see? Silver spoons, they’re good for clear water. But sometimes, the fish like different colors, depends on the day, I guess. It’s all a guessing game, if you ask me. But that’s what makes it fun, I reckon.
One thing I do know, is that these spoons can cover a lot of water. You can drag ’em around and find where the fish are hiding. That’s important, you know. Can’t catch fish if you don’t know where they are! My grandpappy always said, “Find the fish, you find the dinner!”.
So, if you’re gonna go salmon fishing, you might as well try these spoons. They seem to work for everyone else, so they might just work for you too. Just remember, it ain’t all about the gear, it’s about patience and know-how. And maybe a little bit of luck, too. Good luck out there, and don’t forget to bring a net!
And another thing. You gotta make sure you got the right kinda rod and reel, ya know. Can’t be usin’ no flimsy little pole for a big ol’ salmon. You need somethin’ strong, somethin’ that can handle a fight. Them salmon, they don’t give up easy, I tell ya. They fight hard.
Anyways, that’s about all I know about these salmon fishing spoons. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, but I seen enough to know they work. So go on out there and give it a try. And if you catch a big one, send me a picture!
