Oh, honey, if you’re lookin’ to head out to Hagg Lake, you came to the right place! It’s a lovely spot out there in Oregon, ’bout 7 miles southwest of Forest Grove. Now, don’t get too caught up in all them fancy words. Let me just tell ya a bit ’bout this lake and what you can do while you’re out there. This here is Henry Hagg Lake, and it ain’t just any lake. It’s got all kinds of trails, places to picnic, and spots where you can throw your boat in and enjoy the water.
First things first, the lake’s an artificial one, built way back when, to hold up the waters of Scoggins Creek. Now, it’s got a whole lotta water, nearly 60,000 acre-feet of it, to be exact. That’s a lotta water! And you can just imagine how big the lake must be with that much water in it. It’s spread out on a surface area of about 1,100 acres. That’s a mighty fine spot for all sorts of outdoor fun.
So, now you might be askin’, what all can you do out there at Henry Hagg Lake? Well, sugar, lemme tell ya. There’s this thing called the Hagg Lake Trail. It’s a 13.3-mile loop, perfect if you like a good long walk or even wanna hop on your mountain bike. It’s a bit of a challenge, but nothin’ too rough, just a good walk through nature, where you might see all sorts of critters and birds. And if you’re real lucky, maybe even a deer or two. It takes a little over four hours to get through the whole trail, so pack yourself a nice lunch and take your time. That’s what I always say, take it slow and enjoy the beauty around you.
If you ain’t up for walkin’, don’t worry, ’cause there’s plenty of other things to do. The lake’s got places where you can just sit and relax, maybe throw a line in and do some fishin’. Some folks like to bring their boats, too. There’s a boat launchin’ area, so if you’ve got a boat, you can bring it right in. If you ain’t got a boat, don’t fret, just bring a good ol’ picnic basket, and find yourself a nice spot along the shore to sit and relax. You’ll be surrounded by all the beauty of nature, just listenin’ to the birds sing and the water lappin’ up against the shore.
Now, if you’re thinkin’ about bringin’ a big group, well, this here park has got you covered too. You can rent out areas for weddings, reunions, or even a big family get-together. They’ve got picnic tables and all, but you gotta make sure to make a reservation ahead of time. Can’t just show up and expect to get a spot for 30 people, no sir! Best to check on their website for more details about reservin’ a place and what they offer.
And don’t be worried about the cost of parkin’ either. It’s not free to park, but it ain’t too bad neither. A daily pass will run ya about $7, or if you’re a senior or a veteran, you can get it for $5. If you’re gonna be back more than once, it might be worth it to grab yourself an annual pass for $60, or $40 if you’re a senior or vet. It’s cheaper than payin’ each time, that’s for sure!
Now, to make sure you don’t get lost, they’ve got maps all over the place. You can find a trail map, and it’ll show you all the spots around the lake. Some of the popular areas to check out are places like the Elks Rec Area, Rainbow View, and South Shore. Each one’s got somethin’ a little different, but all of ’em are worth seein’. You can also go check out the Disc Golf area if you’re into that kinda thing. It’s a good way to spend the afternoon, gettin’ out and about with the family.
So, if you’re thinkin’ ’bout comin’ on down to Hagg Lake, you’re in for a treat. It’s a beautiful spot, plenty to do, and the best part is, it’s all set up to enjoy at your own pace. Whether you want to hike the trails, launch a boat, or just have a picnic by the lake, you’re bound to have a good time. Just remember to pack your sunscreen and your hat, ’cause it can get mighty sunny out there!
And one last thing, don’t forget the park’s location. It’s at 50250 SW Scoggins Valley Rd, Gaston, OR 97119, so make sure you’ve got your directions straight. You don’t wanna be gettin’ lost out there, now do ya? It’s open from sunrise to sunset, so you got plenty of time to make a day of it.
Alrighty then, that’s all I got for ya. I hope you get the chance to visit this beautiful spot and make some good memories. Take care now, ya hear?
