Alright, let’s talk about them fish bitin’ in Ocean City, Maryland. You know, down there by the ocean. Folks always askin’, “What’s bitin’?” Well, lemme tell ya, it depends on when you go, see?
Fishin’ in the Springtime
Come springtime, things start warmin’ up. Them fish, they gettin’ hungry after the winter. You might catch some trout, them fellers are pretty good eatin’. And them largemouth bass, they put up a good fight, let me tell ya. Big ol’ mouths on ’em. Then there’s them blue catfish, bottom feeders mostly, but they get big and fat. Good for fryin’, I reckon.
Summertime Fishin’ Fun
Now, summertime, that’s when the real party starts. Lots of folks down there fishin’. Them dogfish are swimmin’ around, little sharks they are, but not too scary. You might see some skate too, flat as a pancake, them things are. Them blowfish, they puff up like a ball when you catch ’em, kinda funny lookin’. And if you’re lucky, maybe you’ll see a hammerhead shark, but you best leave them alone, they ain’t for messin’ with. Don’t forget the atlantic stargazer, with its eyes on top of its head, weirdest thing you ever did see. Plenty of spot and mullet too, good for bait or eatin’ if they’re big enough. And croakers, they make a croakin’ sound, that’s how they got their name. American eels, slippery fellers, hard to hold onto. And the american shad, they swim up the rivers to spawn.

Fishin’ in the Fall
When the leaves start changin’, some fish start movin’ south, but there’s still plenty bitin’. Cobia, them are big fellers, put up a real fight. Oyster crackers, little fish, good for bait. And them toad fish, ugly as sin, but some folks eat ’em. You might see a spider crab crawlin’ around on the bottom, not a fish, but still fun to catch. Black drum, they get their name from the sound they make, like a drum beatin’.
What About Them Southern Fish?
Now, I heard tell that with the water gettin’ warmer, some of them southern fish are comin’ up north. Can’t say for sure which ones, but I reckon you might see some things you ain’t used to seein’. Just keep your eyes peeled.
When to Go Fishin’ in Ocean City Inlet
Folks always want to know when the best time to fish is. Well, the inlet’s a good spot, but the fish bite at different times. Some bite early in the mornin’, some in the evenin’. You gotta figure it out, that’s part of the fun. There’s an app now, I hear, that tells you when to go. I don’t know nothin’ about that fancy stuff, but some folks like it.
Readin’ Them Fishin’ Reports
You can always check them fishin’ reports, see what folks are catchin’. They tell you what’s bitin’ and where. They got reports for November and October, and probably other months too. Just look ’em up online, or ask around at the bait shop. Them fellers know what’s goin’ on.
So, that’s the lowdown on the fishin’ in Ocean City. It changes all the time, so you gotta be ready for anything. But that’s what makes it fun, right? Never know what you’re gonna pull up. Just remember to bring your bait, your tackle, and a whole lotta patience. And don’t forget to have fun!
