Well, let me tell ya ’bout this place, Silverton Reservoir, in Oregon. They also call it Silver Creek Reservoir, y’know, just so ya don’t get confused. It ain’t far from this town, Silverton, a real nice place. Heard it’s close to Salem too, and folks from Portland, they drive down there all the time, less’n an hour, they say. It ain’t one of them big ol’ lakes, but it’s pretty enough.
What’s there to do? Well, you can go fishin’, I guess. Folks always talkin’ ’bout catchin’ trout and bass. Don’t know nothin’ ’bout fishin’ myself, but I hear tell it’s good there. They got them boats too, kayaks they call ’em. Little things, you paddle ’em around. Looks like hard work to me, but young folks like it.
- Fishin’
- Boatin’ (kayaks, I think)
- Picnics
- Walkin’ around
Then there’s the park, Silverton Marine Park. Nice place for a picnic. Take the grandkids, let ‘em run around. They got tables and stuff, so you can eat outside. Just watch out for them squirrels, they’ll steal your food if you ain’t lookin’! Always somethin’ goin’ on in that town of Silverton, they say. Farmers markets, brewfests, all sorts of things. Never been myself, too busy with chores, ya know.
Now, they got this thing called murals in Silverton. Pictures painted on the walls, big ones. Some folks like ‘em, I guess. They say it tells the town’s story, but I don’t know. Looks like a bunch of paint to me. They got tours you can take, walk around and look at ‘em. If you’re into that sort of thing.
Parkin’ costs ya though, five bucks they say. For your car, I mean. Guess they gotta pay for somethin’. Everything costs money these days. Can’t even go for a walk without payin’ somebody, it seems. But if you want to see a bit of nature, and you’re in Oregon, I guess it ain’t a bad place to go. Pretty quiet, peaceful. Not like the city, all that noise and rushin’ around. I like the quiet, myself. Gives a body a chance to think.
Folks keep tellin’ me to “explore the wonders” of Silverton and all that fancy talk. I say, the wonder is gettin’ a good night’s sleep without the chickens squawkin’ at dawn. But, the reservoir, it’s nice enough. If you like water and trees and such. They got all these facts about Oregon, like it’s somethin’ special. Well, every place is special if you look hard enough, I reckon. Just gotta keep your eyes open and your mouth shut, and you’ll see it.
So, that’s the Silverton Reservoir, or Silver Creek, whatever you wanna call it. A little bit of water, a little bit of park, some fish, some boats, and some paint on the walls. Go take a look, if you’re in the neighborhood. Just remember that five bucks for parkin’. And don’t forget your bug spray, them mosquitoes can be fierce.
They got landmarks too, they say. Buildings and such. Old stuff, mostly. Don’t pay much attention to that myself. More interested in whether the tomatoes are growin’ alright. But some folks like that history stuff. So, if you’re one of ‘em, Silverton’s got somethin’ for ya, I guess.
Overall, it’s a decent place. Ain’t nothin’ fancy, but it’s peaceful. Good for a day trip, if you ain’t got nothin’ better to do. Just pack a lunch, bring some water, and be prepared to pay for parkin’. And don’t expect no miracles. It’s just a reservoir, after all.
