Alright, let’s talk about this fishin’ thing, you know, when the wind’s all whoopin’ and hollerin’. Do them fish still bite? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t always so simple.
Wind and Fishin’: It’s Complicated
See, some folks say when the wind’s blowin’ hard, the fish get all stirred up and hungry. Makes sense, I guess. The wind, it messes with the water, you know? Makes little waves and such. And that, they say, it gets the food movin’ around. Bugs and little critters get knocked into the water, and the fish, well, they think it’s a buffet! So yeah, the fish might be more active, swimmin’ around lookin’ for a snack. They ain’t as scared neither, can’t see as good with all that water movin’, so they just gobble up whatever comes their way.
But then there’s other folks, they say it ain’t so easy. They say the wind, it matters which way it’s blowin’. There’s this old sayin’, somethin’ about “wind from the east, fish bite the least.” And somethin’ else about “wind from the west, fish bite the best.” Now, I ain’t no scientist, but I reckon there might be somethin’ to it. Maybe the wind from the west, it brings in warmer water or somethin’. Or maybe it pushes the little fish food towards where the big fish hang out. Who knows? But folks been sayin’ it for years, so there’s gotta be somethin’ to it, right?
- Wind from the East: Maybe not so good for fishin’. Some folks say it makes the water too cold or somethin’.
- Wind from the West: This is supposed to be the good stuff. The fish are bitin’, they say.
- Wind from the North: This one, I ain’t so sure about. Some say it’s okay, some say it ain’t.
- Wind from the South: This one’s supposed to be pretty good too. Blows the food right into the fishes’ mouths, they say.
Other Things to Think About
Now, the wind ain’t the only thing that matters. You gotta think about other stuff too. Like how strong the wind is. A little wind, that’s probably okay. But if it’s blowin’ a gale, well, that’s a different story. You might not even be able to get your boat out there. And even if you could, the fish might be hunkered down somewhere, tryin’ to stay outta the rough water. And the water gets all muddy and mixed up, maybe the fish can’t see your bait so good.
And then there’s the temperature. If it’s a cold wind, that might make the water too cold for the fish to be active. But if it’s a warm wind, well, that might be just what the fish need to get ’em goin’. The sun plays a part too, you know. Sunny days, even with wind, sometimes the fish bite pretty good. And sometimes the water gets clearer or darker dependin’ on that wind and sun, I reckon that changes things too.
So, Do They Bite or Don’t They?
So, do fish bite when it’s windy? Well, like I said, it ain’t so simple. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. It depends on a whole bunch of things: which way the wind’s blowin’, how strong it is, what the temperature’s like, and who knows what else. The best way to find out is to just go fishin’ and see for yourself. That’s what I always say. You ain’t gonna catch nothin’ sittin’ at home, wind or no wind! Just be careful out there, you hear? Don’t want you gettin’ blown away!
And remember, even if the fish ain’t bitin’, it’s still good to be out there, enjoyin’ the fresh air and the peace and quiet. Well, maybe not so quiet if the wind’s howlin’, but you know what I mean. Fishin’ ain’t just about catchin’ fish, it’s about gettin’ away from it all and relaxin’. And sometimes, that’s the best part.
One last thing, I heard some folks sayin’ somethin’ about the wind pushin’ the fish into the shallow water. So maybe, if it’s windy, you don’t need to fish so deep. Just a little tip for ya.
