Alright, listen up, y’all. We gonna talk ’bout catchin’ them crappie in the summer, when it’s hotter than a pepper sprout. You know, them fish gotta eat, just like us, even when the sun’s beatin’ down.
Now, I ain’t no fancy fisherman with all them fancy gears. I use what works, plain and simple. And let me tell ya, nothin’ beats a good ol’ minnow. Them crappie, they love them little wiggly things. It’s like candy to a baby, I tell ya. You can hook ’em on a jig, or just use a plain hook, it don’t matter much. Just make sure they’re lively. A dead minnow ain’t gonna catch nothin’ but weeds.
- Minnows are the real deal. Don’t waste your time with fancy stuff if you ain’t got minnows.
- Hook them little fellers good so they don’t get off.
- Keep ’em in a cool bucket with fresh water. Happy minnows catch more fish, that’s the truth.
Some folks, they like to use worms too. Worms work alright, I guess, but they ain’t as good as minnows, not in my book. Them crappie, they like somethin’ that moves around a lot, somethin’ that looks alive. Worms, they just kinda sit there. But hey, if you ain’t got minnows, a worm’s better than nothin’.
Now, let’s talk about where to find them crappie in the summer. They ain’t gonna be in the shallows, that’s for sure. Too hot up there. They’ll be down deep, where it’s cooler. Look for them around brush piles, them trees that fell in the water, stuff like that. Them crappie, they like to hide in them places. It’s like their little hidey-holes. You gotta get your bait down to where they are. That might mean usin’ a little weight on your line.
I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout them jig things. Little colorful things with hooks. They say they work good too. I tried ’em a few times, and they caught some fish, I ain’t gonna lie. But I still like minnows better. It’s just what I’m used to, I reckon. But if you wanna try them jigs, go ahead. Just make sure you get the right color. Sometimes they like bright colors, sometimes they like dark colors. It just depends on the day, I guess. Fishin’ ain’t an exact science, ya know.
And don’t forget about crankbaits, those little things that look like tiny fish. They say you can use them in deeper water, where them big crappie hang out. I ain’t used ’em much myself, but I seen folks catchin’ fish with ’em. You gotta reel ’em in slow, make ’em look like they’re swimmin’. Them crappie, they’ll chase after ’em and BAM! Fish on!
So, to sum it all up, the best bait for crappie in the summer is minnows, hands down. But if you ain’t got minnows, worms or jigs will work too. Just remember to fish deep, find some cover, and keep your bait movin’. And most importantly, have patience. Fishin’ ain’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. Nothin’ beats a mess of fried crappie on a hot summer night, I tell ya.
One more thing, them crappie, they like them places where there’s somethin’ vertical in the water. Like them willow trees that hang down, or them bamboo poles folks put in the lake. Or even just some old pipes. They stack up on them things, one on top of the other. So if you find somethin’ like that, you’re likely to find some crappie.
Springtime is when everybody says the fishin’ is best, but you can catch ’em in the summer too, you just gotta know how. And don’t be afraid to try different things. What works one day might not work the next. That’s just the way fishin’ is.
Now, get out there and catch some fish! And don’t forget your sunscreen and a hat, it’s gonna be a scorcher out there.
