You know, there’s this place, Dorman Pond, over by Gales Creek. Now, it ain’t no fancy lake or nothing, but it sure does draw in a lot of folks, especially when the fishin’ is good. This pond, it used to be just a big ol’ gravel pit. Didn’t have much goin’ for it, but now it’s a nice little spot where folks can toss their lines and catch themselves some fish. They put a bunch of trout in there every year, and let me tell ya, the fishin’ gets pretty hot right after they stock it. You can just about guarantee yourself a good catch right after they put them trout in. But, don’t wait too long, ’cause the fish don’t stay around forever. After a little while, they get caught up and thinned out. If you wanna make sure you’re fishin’ when it’s best, you might wanna check the schedule and go right after they put them fish in.
Now, Dorman Pond ain’t just for trout. Nope, it’s also got some other critters swimmin’ around in it. I’ve seen bluegill and catfish, the kind you can catch year-round, if you’re in the mood. Them bullhead catfish, they like to hide out in the mud, but if you know where to fish, you might just get lucky. And don’t forget about the turtles! I hear there’s at least one turtle that’s been hangin’ around there for a long time. I swear, it’s been there longer than I’ve been goin’ there, and that’s sayin’ somethin’!
Folks love to come out here and fish with their worms or them little lures they throw out in the water. You can just soak some bait and wait for them fish to bite, or if you’re feelin’ lucky, you can try casting a fly or a lure. Either way, you’ll probably get yourself something if you’re patient enough. If you ask me, it’s a good spot to take the kids too. They can learn how to fish and have some fun. Ain’t too far from the road, and it’s not too crowded, so you can relax while you fish. Only thing is, you might hear some cars go by now and then, since it’s right off Highway 6. But it ain’t too bad.
If you’re comin’ from the Gales Creek area, it’s real easy to find. You just head out towards the junction of Gales Creek Road and Highway 6, and just a little ways west from there, you’ll see it on the side. Can’t miss it, really. I reckon you can’t go wrong with this place if you’re lookin’ for a quiet day fishin’ and maybe even a little adventure in the process.
And, folks always end up with a bunch of fishing lures stuck in the muck out there. Ain’t a time I go there that I don’t see some lure or hook stuck on a rock or floatin’ in the water somewhere. It’s like a little treasure hunt. Makes you wonder how many lost lures are down there at the bottom!
So, if you’re ever in the neighborhood and you like fishin’, or if you’re just lookin’ for a nice place to relax and try your luck, give Dorman Pond a visit. It’s not too far off the beaten path, and I guarantee you’ll have a good time. Whether you’re fishin’ for trout or just want to take in the scenery, it’s worth the stop.
