Alright, let’s talk about this Depoe Bay fishing thing, you know? I heard some folks chatterin’ about it, so I figured I’d tell ya what I know, or what I heard, anyway. Don’t expect no fancy words from me, I just talk plain.
So, this Depoe Bay, they say it’s a real good spot for fishin’. Real good, they say. Lots of fish in the water, I guess. And the ocean, well, it’s somethin’ to look at, they tell me. Big and blue, goes on forever. Makes you feel kinda small, I reckon.
Now, if you wanna go fishin’ on a boat, a charter boat they call it, you gotta pay. Nothin’s free in this world, that’s for sure. I heard tell it costs a pretty penny, too. For a few hours, maybe four, it’s like, what, four hundred and seventy dollars? That’s a lot of money, let me tell ya. If you wanna stay out all day, eight hours or so, it’s even more. Almost seven hundred bucks! My goodness gracious! Who got that kind of money to throw around, I wonder?
They got this place for the boats, a boat basin they call it. Big ol’ thing, I guess. Long and wide, plenty of room for all them boats. And deep enough too, so they don’t get stuck on the bottom. Smart folks, them boat people.
- They say the channel is fifty feet wide. That’s a lot of feet!
- And it’s eight feet deep. Deep enough for the fishes, I reckon.
- The boat basin, well, that’s even bigger. Seven hundred and fifty feet long! My land! And almost four hundred feet wide. That’s a big bathtub!
- And it’s also eight feet deep, just like the channel. Gotta be the same, I suppose, so the boats don’t get stuck.
Now, about them fish. I don’t know what kinda fish they got in that ocean. Just… fish, I guess. But I heard tell there’s other things in the water too. Big things. Orcas, they call ‘em. Killer whales! Can you believe it? Big black and white things, swimmin’ around, eatin’ fish, and maybe other things too. Scary, if you ask me. But folks go out there on purpose to see ‘em. Crazy, I tell ya, just crazy.
Folks seem to like this Depoe Bay place. They go there and they write about it, I hear. On some kinda… Tripadvisor thing, they call it. They say what they did and what they liked and what they didn’t like. Sounds like a lot of fuss to me. But I guess it helps other folks decide if they wanna go there or not.
And somethin’ else… they call Depoe Bay the Whale Watching Capital of the Oregon Coast. Whales! Not just them killer ones, but other whales too, I guess. Big ol’ things, swimmin’ in the water. Must be somethin’ to see, I suppose. But me? I’m happy right here on dry land, thank you very much.
So, that’s about all I know about this Depoe Bay fishin’. It’s a place with lots of fish, and pretty water, and them killer whales. And it costs a lot of money to go fishin’ on a boat. That’s the long and short of it. If you got the money and you like boats and fish and maybe even killer whales, well, then maybe you should go check it out. Me? I’ll stick to my garden, thanks. Less expensive and no killer whales to worry about.
But hey, don’t take my word for it. Go see for yourself, if you’re so inclined. Just be careful out there, you hear? The ocean’s a big place, and you never know what might be lurking in those deep waters.
And remember what I told ya, it ain’t cheap! So save your pennies, or whatever you young folks use these days. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll catch yourself a big ol’ fish. Or see a whale. Or somethin’. Good luck to ya, I say!
