Well, howdy there! You wanna know about fishin’ in Corvallis, Oregon? Alright, I’ll tell ya what I know. It ain’t fancy, but it’s the truth, ya hear?
First off, they got this place, Adair Village. Behind the ODFW office, they say. Big ol’ pond, six acres they tell me. Lots of bass in there, and them little panfish too. Easy catchin’ for the young’uns, I reckon.
Now, if you’re lookin’ for the best fishin’, well, that’s a whole ‘nother story. Folks talk about all sorts of places. Some like the rivers, some like the lakes. Me? I just like a place where the fish are bitin’. Don’t much care where it is.
- They got this Watershed Fly Shop. Them fellas know a thing or two, I hear. They can tell you where to go and what to use. But you gotta pay ’em, mind you. Nothin’ in this world is free, ‘cept maybe the air we breathe.
- Then there’s Shea Point Foster Lake. Heard it’s nice. And Silverton Reservoir Marine Park too. But I ain’t been to them places myself, so I can’t say for sure.
- And them Yaquina Bay Charters fellas, they take you out on a boat. Fancy stuff. If you got the money, I guess. Me, I just fish from the bank. Good enough for me.
- Oh, and there’s the Sweet Creek trail. Pretty place, they say. But fishin’? I dunno. Maybe. You gotta ask around.
Them fish and wildlife fellas, they stock trout in lots of places. They got a schedule, so you know when to go. Handy, I reckon. They call it the Willamette Valley, this place. Lots of trout, they say. Steelhead, rainbow, cutthroat… all them fancy names. I just call ’em trout.
If you’re gonna fish the Willamette River, well, you gotta be ready for anythin’. Big ol’ salmon, they got. Chinook and Coho, they call ’em. And sturgeon too. Them’s big fish, ya hear? Gotta have a strong line for them fellas.
And then there’s bass. Smallmouth and largemouth. Crappie, walleye, catfish… all sorts. Even them shad fish. Don’t know much about them, but folks catch ’em. Seems like there’s somethin’ for everyone in that river.
Oregon’s got lots of fishin’, they say. Rivers and the ocean too. Miles and miles of it. But me, I just stick to what I know. Find a quiet spot, cast a line, and see what happens. That’s my kinda fishin’.
Now, if you’re lookin’ for bait and tackle, there’s a place called Harry’s. They got what you need. Hooks and lines and all that stuff. Can’t fish without ’em, that’s for sure. And if you wanna be real fancy, you can go to that fly shop I told you about. But like I said, it’ll cost ya.
Fishin’ ain’t just about catchin’ fish, ya know. It’s about bein’ outside, enjoyin’ the peace and quiet. Listenin’ to the birds singin’, feelin’ the sun on your face. That’s what I like about it. And if you catch a fish or two, well, that’s just a bonus.
So, if you’re in Corvallis and you wanna go fishin’, just ask around. Folks will tell you where to go. And don’t forget your license! Them game wardens ain’t no fun, I tell ya. They’ll slap you with a fine faster than you can say “bass”.
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about fishin’ in Corvallis. Hope it helps ya. Now go on out there and catch some fish! And don’t forget to bring a bucket and some sunscreen. And maybe a hat. The sun can get pretty strong, ya know.
