Alright, listen up, ya’ll. Gonna tell ya ’bout this place, Erma somethin’ lakes, out in Oregon. Never been there myself, mind you, but heard folks talkin’. Sounds like a pretty place, if you like that kinda thing.
Now, they say it’s up in them Cascade mountains. Big ol’ mountains, I reckon. Heard they got trees taller than any barn I ever seen. And these lakes, well, they ain’t just one, see? There’s a whole bunch of ’em. Three, they say. Lower, Middle, and I guess a Upper one too. Fancy names for some water, if you ask me.
Folks go hikkin’ there. Yeah, walkin’ up them mountains. Must be young folks, ’cause my old bones ain’t doin’ no climbin’. They got trails, they say. One called Erma Bell Lakes Trail, somethin’ like number 3563. Sounds official, huh? And Wahanna Trail, Black Creek Trail, Blair Lake Trail…Lordy, so many trails, you could get lost for sure. They say that Erma Bell Lakes Trail is real popular, lots of folks trompin’ around.
But it ain’t just walkin’, ya know. They got this Waldo Lake nearby. Big ol’ lake, I hear. And these Erma Bell Lakes, they’re north of it. Kinda like little babies followin’ their mama. And they say there’s a waterfall between the Lower and Middle lake. Water fallin’ down, makin’ a big noise, I bet. Pretty, I guess, if you ain’t gotta haul water from it.
This place, they call it a wilderness. That means it ain’t like town, see? No stores, no roads, just trees and mountains and water. Sounds peaceful, but I bet it’s got critters too. Bears and such. Wouldn’t want to meet one of them on a dark night, I tell ya. Gotta watch yer step, and keep yer eyes peeled.
- Lots of trees, they say, Douglas-fir trees. Big ones.
- Trails everywhere, so many ya can’t count on yer fingers.
- Waterfalls and lakes, pretty as a picture. But bring yer own water, I say.
- It’s a wilderness. That means it’s wild.
They say it’s a good place for a day trip. Take yer lunch, walk around, look at the water. But they also say it’s busy. Lots of folks. Guess everyone wants to see them pretty lakes. Me, I’d rather sit on my porch, drink some sweet tea. But to each their own, I reckon.
Now, this trail, the Erma Bell one, it ain’t too steep, they say. Flat-like, mostly. That’s good, I guess. Easier on the legs. And they say it’s real scenic. That means it’s pretty. Lots to look at, ‘cept trees and water. But some folks like that kinda thing. Makes ’em feel good, I guess.
They also say Skookum Creek Campground is nearby. That’s where folks camp, I hear. Sleep in tents, cook outside. Not for me, thank you very much. I like my bed and my stove. But young folks, they like roughin’ it. More power to ’em.
So, if you like walkin’ and lookin’ at trees and water, this Erma Bell Lakes place in Oregon might be for you. Just remember, it’s wild out there. Be careful, ya hear? And bring yer own water. And maybe a shotgun, just in case them bears get too friendly. Oregon is a big place, with lots to see. This Erma Bell Lakes just another place to visit. But me, I’ll stick to my porch, thankee kindly.
So, there ya have it. Everything I heard about them Erma Bell Lakes. Go see ‘em if ya want. Just don’t blame me if ya get lost or eaten by a bear.
