Alright, let’s talk about them fish weeds, you know, the stuff that grows in the water where the fish live. I ain’t no fancy scientist, but I’ve seen enough ponds and lakes in my day to know a thing or two about these pesky plants.
First off, there’s different kinds, like, some float on top, some stick out of the water, and some grow all underneath. Them green slimy ones, they call ’em algae, them’s the worst, always growing everywhere. They’re like the weeds in your garden, just messier and wetter.
Why are these weeds a problem? Well, for one, they can make it hard for the fish to swim around. Imagine you tryin’ to walk through a field of tall grass, it ain’t easy, right? Same for the fish. And if there’s too many weeds, the fish might not get enough sun, and that ain’t good. Plus, too many weeds and the pond will have less oxygen in it, then the fish can’t breath and die, yikes!
Now, if you got a fish pond, you gotta keep these weeds in check. You can’t just let ’em grow wild. One way to do it is to build the pond right in the first place. Make sure it ain’t too shallow, and that the water flows good. That way, the weeds won’t have as many places to take root.
But what if the weeds are already there? Well, you gotta get rid of ’em somehow. Some folks use chemicals, stuff they call herbicides. They pour it in the water and it kills the weeds. But you gotta be careful with that stuff, too much and it can hurt the fish, too. I don’t like messing around with them things too much, too dangerous for my taste.
- Floating Weeds: These just sit on top, like a green blanket. Easy to see, easy to scoop out if there ain’t too many.
- Emersed Weeds: These stick up out of the water. You can pull ’em out by hand, but that’s a lot of work.
- Submersed Weeds: These are the sneaky ones. They grow under the water, and you can’t always see ’em. These are the real trouble makers.
Now, if you’re tryin’ to fish in a weedy pond, that’s a whole ‘nother story. You gotta use special tricks to get the fish out of them weeds. I heard tell of some fancy plastic worms folks use. They call ’em “Texas rigged” or somethin’. You put ’em on a hook and the hook hides inside the worm, so it don’t get caught on the weeds so easy. Then you just drag it through the weeds and hope a fish bites.
Another thing about fishin’ in weeds is keeping your hands clean. You know, like, if you been messin’ with gasoline or oil, you gotta wash your hands good before you touch your fishin’ line. Fish don’t like that smell, and they won’t bite. Makes sense, I guess, I wouldn’t like it neither.
And then there’s this thing called a buzzbait. It’s a lure that makes a lot of noise on top of the water, kinda like a buzzing bee. You throw it out there and pull it back, and sometimes that noise gets the fish all excited. You gotta try different speeds and ways of pullin’ it back, til you figure out what the fish want that day. It’s all about trial and error, you know, just like life.
So, whether you’re tryin’ to get rid of weeds in your fish pond or catch a fish in a weedy lake, it ain’t always easy. But with a little bit of know-how and a whole lot of patience, you can get it done. Just remember, keep it simple, and don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty. Well, maybe not too dirty if you catch my drift.
