Well, I’ll tell ya ’bout fishin’ at Sardis Lake, Mississippi. It ain’t no fancy place, but folks ’round here like it alright.
Sardin Lake Fishin’: What You Need to Know
First off, let’s talk about what kinda fish they got in that there lake. I ain’t no biologist, mind you, but I hear tell they got all sorts. They say there’s bass, crappie, catfish, and some other kinds too. Now, I ain’t caught ’em all myself, but I seen some fellas pull out some pretty big ones.
- Bass: Big ol’ green fish, fight like heck. Good eatin’ too.
- Crappie: Smaller, but tasty. Folks like to catch a mess of ‘em.
- Catfish: Bottom feeders, ugly as sin, but man, they fry up good. Gotta watch out for them whiskers though, they’ll poke ya.
Now, when to go fishin’? That’s a good question. Some folks say early mornin’ is best, others say late evenin’. Me? I like to go whenever I can sneak away from the chores. But I heard tell the fish bite more when the water is cool, so maybe spring and fall are the best times. I reckon you can catch somethin’ most any time of year though, if you’re lucky.
They got this thing called a “fishin’ report” they put out. Says how high the water is and all that. Don’t know what half of it means, but the fellas at the bait shop, they seem to understand it. Says somethin’ about how many feet the water is up, and how much water is in the lake. Beats me. All I care about is if the fish are bitin’.
The lake is big, real big. They say it covers thousands of acres. Plenty of room to fish, that’s for sure. You can fish from the bank, or get yourself a boat. Boats are nice, lets you get out to where the fish are hidin’. But I seen plenty of folks catch fish just fine from the shore. Just gotta find a good spot, you know?
Findin’ the Fishin’ Spots
Talkin’ ‘bout good spots, that’s the trick, ain’t it? Some folks like to fish near the trees, some like to fish out in the open water. I reckon it depends on what kind of fish you’re after. And the time of day too, I suppose. You gotta experiment a little, try different spots until you find somethin’ that works. Or just ask around at the bait shop. Them fellas always know where the fish are bitin’. Or at least, they say they do.
They got these newfangled gadgets now, “fish finders” they call ’em. Supposed to show you where the fish are underwater. Never used one myself, I like to do things the old-fashioned way. But I hear they work pretty good. Maybe if you’re serious about catchin’ fish, you might want to get yourself one of them things.
Get Ready to Go Fishin’
Now, before you go fishin’, you gotta get yourself some bait. Worms, minnows, crickets… whatever the fish are hungry for. And you need a good fishin’ pole, a hook, and some line. Don’t forget a bucket to put your fish in. And a cooler with some snacks and drinks. Fishin’ can be thirsty work. And don’t forget your hat and sunscreen, that sun can be brutal out on the water.
So, that’s about all I know about fishin’ at Sardis Lake. It ain’t rocket science, just gotta get out there and try it. And remember, even if you don’t catch anythin’, it’s still a good way to spend a day. Beats sittin’ around the house watchin’ the TV, that’s for sure.
One more thing, you gotta have a fishin’ license. Don’t want to get yourself in trouble with the game warden. They don’t take kindly to folks fishin’ without a license. And be sure to follow the rules, you know, how many fish you can keep and all that. We gotta keep the lake healthy so there’ll be fish for everyone in the future. It’s just the right thing to do.
And one last piece of advice from this old woman, be patient. Fishin’ ain’t always easy. Sometimes you’ll sit there for hours and not catch a thing. But if you stick with it, sooner or later, you’ll feel that tug on your line and you’ll know it was all worth it. Now get out there and go fishin’!
