Alright, let’s talk about fishin’ in Ormond Beach, ya hear? I ain’t no fancy fisherman, but I know a thing or two about catchin’ fish, been doin’ it my whole life. So listen up, this ain’t no city slicker talk, this is plain and simple, just like fishin’ should be.
First off, you wanna know where to go, right? Well, Ormond Beach, she’s got plenty of spots. You got that Halifax River, that’s a good one. And Tomoka River too. Lots of fish in them waters, I tell ya. They say you can find Snook, Redfish, Black Drum, and even them big Tarpon fellas in there. I ain’t caught a Tarpon myself, but I seen folks pull ’em out, big as a door they was!
Now, some folks like to go out on them boats, fancy charters and such. They go chasin’ after Redfish and Speckled Trout all year round. That’s fine and dandy, but you don’t need no boat to catch fish, I tell ya. You can fish right from the shore, plenty of places to do that.
What kinda fish you after? That’s the first thing you gotta ask yourself. Redfish? They like them shallow waters, near the grass. Black Drum? They like the bottom, lookin’ for crabs and such. Speckled Trout? They hang around them drop-offs, waitin’ for bait to come by. You gotta know what they like, where they hang out, if you wanna catch ’em.
And then there’s the tides, you gotta pay attention to them tides. They go up and they go down, just like the moon does. When the tide’s movin’, that’s when the fish are bitin’. They told me the high tide today was somethin’ like 5:36 in the mornin’, and then again at 5:46 in the evenin’. And low tide was around noon. So you plan your fishin’ around that, you hear? Mornin’ and evenin’ is usually best, but I caught fish at all times of the day, so you never know.
- Mornin’ fishin’: Get there early, before the sun gets too high.
- Evenin’ fishin’: Wait till the sun starts goin’ down, that’s when they start bitin’ again.
- Daytime fishin’: Find some shade, fish near structures, where the fish are hidin’.
Now, don’t go thinkin’ you need fancy gear neither. A good rod and reel, some hooks, some line, and some bait, that’s all you need. You can use live bait, like shrimp or minnows, or you can use artificial lures. I like shrimp myself, but sometimes them fish want somethin’ different, so you gotta experiment a bit.
And speaking of bait, you can find it around. Dig for worms, catch some minnows in a net, or buy some shrimp at the bait shop. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty, that’s part of fishin’.
They got this thing called a “solunar” fishin’ time, whatever that means. Said it helps you know when the fish are gonna be most active. You can look it up online, they say. I just go when I feel like it, but maybe it helps some folks.
And if you’re fishin’ near the beach, you gotta watch them waves. They got somethin’ called a surf report, tells you how big the waves are gonna be. Big waves ain’t good for fishin’, stirs up the water too much. You want calm waters, clear waters, that’s when the fish can see your bait.
There’s this Granada Bridge too, heard folks fish there a lot. Bridges are good spots, fish like to hang around the pilings. Lots of places to explore, you just gotta get out there and try ’em out.
They say there’s folks studyin’ fish, tryin’ to figure out when they bite best. They even tryin’ to predict it for them fishin’ ponds near town. Sounds complicated to me, but I guess it helps some folks.
Findin’ good fishin’ spots ain’t hard. You just gotta look around, ask around. Talk to the locals, they’ll tell ya where to go. And don’t be afraid to try new things. That’s the best way to learn, I tell ya.
And remember, fishin’ ain’t just about catchin’ fish. It’s about bein’ outdoors, enjoyin’ the fresh air, and relaxin’. So don’t get too stressed out if you ain’t catchin’ nothin’. Just keep tryin’, and eventually, you’ll hook somethin’. And if you don’t? Well, at least you had a good day out on the water, right? That’s what I always say.
So get out there, wet a line, and have some fun. Ormond Beach is waitin’ for ya.
