Well now, if yer lookin’ to get yerself a boat in the water, the Boundary Creek boat launch is a place ye might wanna know ’bout. It’s up there in the mountains, real high at around 6,280 feet. Now, I ain’t no expert in them fancy numbers, but that means it’s a good bit up there, so the air’s mighty crisp, even in summer. Fresh air, I tell ya, real fresh, just like the mornings back in the ol’ country when the dew’s still on the grass.
Now, when ye get to Boundary Creek, it ain’t just ’bout launching yer boat. It’s a whole experience. The launch sits right next to the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, which is a mighty fine river, lemme tell ya. It’s what they call “Wild and Scenic,” which means it’s natural and beautiful, like the old creek back home before all them fancy folk started building stuff everywhere. The trees ’round here, especially them lodgepole pines, they stretch up like they’re reachin’ for the sky, and when ye’re out on the water, ye can see ’em all around. Feels peaceful, like a quiet afternoon when there ain’t no one ’round.
But, like I always say, every good thing’s got a little challenge to it. The Boundary Creek boat launch ain’t for everyone, especially if yer used to them easy launches down at the local lake. No sir, this one requires a bit of patience, ’cause ye gotta be mindful of when the water’s up. The Middle Fork, well, it’s fed by a whole mess of little creeks like Bear Valley, Marsh, Camas, Loon, and Big Creeks. Now, these creeks, they’re real important, but they ain’t always easy to get to. They’re only good for launchin’ yer boat when the water’s high enough, so ye gotta time it right. During the low water times, ye might just find yourself sittin’ there, lookin’ at dry land instead of water.
Now, don’t you worry, though. It ain’t all bad news. There’s ways to get to the Middle Fork even before the big roads open up in spring. Ye can use Marsh Creek sometimes, but that depends on how much water’s comin’ through. If the road’s still closed, it might make things a little trickier. But if yer the adventurous type, it might be worth the wait!
It’s important, though, to check if any of them highways are closed before yer set out. Ye don’t wanna get halfway there only to find a roadblock. Highway 21 and Banks-Lowman Road (that’s Hwy. 17) are the main ones to worry about. They get closed down now and then, so best check the road conditions before ye pack up and head out. Can’t tell ya how many times I’ve been ready to go, only to find a road’s closed down in the middle of nowhere. That’s no fun at all!
As for the boat launch itself, it ain’t a big fancy dock like some places, but it’ll do the job. It’s simple, like the good ol’ days. Ye just back yer boat down, get it in the water, and yer off to the river. There’s not much fussin’ around here, just the way I like it. But keep in mind, there’s a bit of a twisty road gettin’ up to it. So, if yer new to this part of the world, maybe best bring someone who knows the way.
All in all, Boundary Creek boat launch is a hidden gem. If ye want a bit of peace, some good fishing, and a chance to see some of the prettiest nature out there, this is the place to be. Just be sure to check the water levels and road conditions, and take it slow on that drive up the mountain. It’s well worth it, even if it means you’ll have to wait for the right time to launch yer boat. Sometimes the best things in life come slow, like a good pot roast or a day at the river.
