Alright, let’s talk about them largemouth bass and when they do their business, you know, makin’ little baby bass. Folks call it spawnin’, I just say they’re busy makin’ families.
Now, these fish, they ain’t dumb. They gotta have the water just right for the lovin’. Can’t be too cold, can’t be too hot, just like us old folks with our aches and pains. I heard tell it’s gotta be somewhere ‘tween 55 and 70 degrees. That’s what them smart fellers with their fancy thermometers say, anyways.
- 50 to 55 degrees: This is when they start gettin’ ready, kinda like me puttin’ on my good shoes before church. They call it pre-spawn. Fish are gettin’ active, lookin’ for a good spot to settle down. Good time to catch ’em, they hungry.
- 55 to 70 degrees: This is the real deal, the main event. Mama bass lays her eggs, papa bass does his part. They protect them eggs like a hen on a nest. Don’t mess with a mama bass durin’ this time, she’ll give you a piece of her mind, I tell ya.
- 70 to 75 degrees and above: Babies are hatched, swimmin’ around. Mama and papa bass are tired, movin’ to deeper water, lookin’ for a good meal. Still a good time to fish, but things are different.
Water temperature, it’s a big deal for these bass. Too cold, they sluggish, like me on a winter mornin’. Too hot, they stressed, like me tryin’ to figure out that newfangled phone. They like it just right, in that sweet spot, that’s when they happy and hungry.
They say the best time to catch ’em is when the water’s ‘tween 70 and 85 degrees. That’s when they are most active, swimmin’ around, lookin’ for somethin’ to eat. It’s like a buffet for them, and you, with your fancy fishin’ pole, you’re the waiter.
Now, some folks say it’s a little different for these bigmouth bass compared to them smallmouth fellas. Bigmouths, they like it a tad warmer. Makes sense, big guys need more heat, just like my old bones in the winter.
Remember, these bass, they feel every little change in the water. A little bit of sunshine, a little bit of rain, it all makes a difference. Just like how a cup of coffee can perk me right up, a change in the water temp can perk them bass right up too. Or make ’em grumpy, depends on the day, I guess.
So, if you want to catch some big ol’ bass, you gotta pay attention to that water temperature. It’s the key, I tell ya. Get yourself a thermometer, or just stick your hand in the water, if you’re brave enough. But don’t blame me if you get a chill! And don’t go botherin’ them bass when they are busy makin’ babies, let ’em have their peace.
Fishin’ ain’t just about luck, it’s about knowin’ the fish, knowin’ the water, and knowin’ when to be patient. Just like life, I reckon.
