Alright, so you wanna know about fishin’ at Kure Beach, huh? Lemme tell ya, it ain’t always easy, but it can be good if you know a thing or two.
Fishin’ Times and Spots
Now, some folks, they got these fancy apps and stuff to tell ’em when to go fishin’. Says somethin’ ’bout “BiteTime™” and all that. I ain’t got no use for that. I just go when I can. But they say early mornin’ and late evenin’, when the sun’s kinda low, that’s a good time. ‘Specially if it lines up with somethin’ they call “high tides”. But let me tell ya, high tides mean less space on the beach to put your chair and stuff. You gotta squeeze in with everyone else.
- Early mornin’ fishin’ – good for bitin’
- Late evenin’ fishin’ – same thing
- High tides – less beach, more crowded
Findin’ a good spot? Well, that’s the trick, ain’t it? Some folks like the pier, some like the surf. I seen folks catchin’ all sorts of fish in both places. You just gotta try your luck, I reckon.
What Kinda Fish You Gonna Catch?
Now, what kinda fish you wanna catch? That depends on the time of year and what’s swimmin’ around. I heard some folks catchin’ bucketfuls of sea mullet over at Topsail last week. Could be they’re here too. They also talk about spot, pompano, and them Virginia mullets. Good eatin’, all of ’em.
Red drum? Oh yeah, them big fellas are fun to catch. You gotta go find them creeks and oyster beds, that’s where they like to hang out. Use some bait, not them fancy lures, and you might just hook yourself a big one.
Spanish mackerel, they come around too, when the weather’s right. And sometimes, you even get lucky and catch a king mackerel. Them kings are real fighters, let me tell ya.
Surf fishin’ can be good too. I seen folks pullin’ in pompano, red drum, black drum, bluefish, and kingfish. All good eatin’ fish, mind you.
Kure Beach Pier Fishin’
That pier down there? It’s a good place to fish, if you don’t mind bein’ shoulder to shoulder with other folks. They catch all sorts of fish there. You got your bottom fish, your topwater fish, all kinds. Just gotta drop a line and see what bites.
Daylight and Fishin’
Now, they say we got about 10 hours of daylight these days. And like I said, them twilight times, when the sun’s comin’ up or goin’ down, that’s when the fish like to bite. They sneaky fellas, them fish. They like to hide in the low light and ambush their food.
Talkin’ to Other Fishermen
You know, one of the best ways to find out what’s bitin’ is to talk to other folks who are fishin’. There’s even a group for surf and pier fishermen to share information. But it’s private, so you gotta be in the know to see what they’re sayin’. Me? I just ask around. Most folks are friendly enough to share a little info.
So there ya have it. A little bit about fishin’ at Kure Beach. It ain’t rocket science, you know. Just get yourself some bait, find a spot, and drop a line. And most importantly, have a little patience. Fishin’ ain’t always about catchin’, sometimes it’s just about bein’ out there, enjoyin’ the day.
Gettin’ Ready for Your Trip
If you ain’t been fishin’ in a while, like my friend’s dad who ain’t been in six years, you gotta get your gear ready. Make sure your rod and reel are workin’ right. Get some fresh line, ‘cause that old stuff gets brittle and breaks easy. And don’t forget your hooks, weights, and bait! You don’t wanna get all the way down there and realize you forgot somethin’ important.
Weather and Fishin’
The weather can make or break a fishin’ trip, let me tell ya. Too windy, and it’s hard to cast. Too rough, and the fish don’t bite. You want a nice, calm day, maybe a little overcast. That’s when the fishin’ is usually best. But hey, sometimes you just gotta take what you can get. I’ve caught fish in all kinds of weather, good and bad. It’s all part of the fun, I reckon.
So, there ya have it. Just a bunch of plain talk about fishin’ at Kure Beach. Hope it helps ya catch somethin’ good!
