Well, let me tell ya ’bout fishin’ down in that there Puerto Vallarta place. Folks call it fishin’ report, I just call it tellin’ ya what we caught, ya know?
What them city folks catchin’ out there?
Them fancy folks, they go out lookin’ for big fish, real big ones. They talkin’ ’bout tuna, the kind that make your arms tired just thinkin’ ’bout pullin’ ’em in. And marlin, oh my, them things jump and fight like crazy. Heard they got sailfish too, them with the big fin on their back, pretty things they are, even if they do give ya a run for your money. And don’t forget them dorados, shiny and gold, good eatin’ they say. They also catch snapper, grouper, tarpon and snook.
Now, if you ain’t got all day, you can stay closer to shore and still catch some sailfish and tuna. Seems like there’s always somethin’ bitin’ down there. Heck, even I could catch somethin’, and I ain’t no fancy fisherman, I tell ya!
- Big fish: Tuna, Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado
- Close to shore fish: Sailfish, Tuna, also snapper, grouper, tarpon and snook.
When’s the best time to go catchin’?
Well, now, that depends on what you’re after. If you want them marlin, the stripy kind, you gotta go early in the year, January all the way through July they say. Once them marlin get tired, the dorados start showin’ up. July to November is dorado time, they say. Folks also told me good fishin’ time is from April to December, even into November of next year they sayin’ the fish will bite.
Seems like whenever you go, there’s somethin’ to catch. They say Puerto Vallarta fishin’ is world class, means there’s lots of fish, I reckon. Water’s warm, fish are happy, and folks are catchin’. What more ya want?
What’s the fishin’ like right now?
Well, I hear tell that the fishin’ is real good right now. Marlin are gettin’ bigger and there’s more of ’em. Sailfish and dorado are bitin’ too. Even them yellowfin tuna, they’re out there. Water’s blue, lots of bait fish, means the big fish are gonna be hungry. Good time to go, if you ask me.
What kinda bait they usin’?
They usin’ all sorts of things, I hear. Live bait, dead bait, lures that look like little fish. Whatever it takes to get them bitin’, I guess. Them fellas know what they’re doin’, they been fishin’ these waters for a long time.
Where do they go fishin’?
Some folks go way out, to the deep water, where the big ones are. That’s where you find them marlin and tuna. Other folks stay closer to shore, fishin’ in the bay. Plenty of fish there too, just smaller ones mostly. And there are those famous deep water fishin’ grounds.
So, is it worth goin’ fishin’ in Puerto Vallarta?
Well, from what I hear, it sure sounds like it. Lots of fish, different kinds, and folks catchin’ ’em all year round. If you like fishin’, or even if you just like eatin’ fish, Puerto Vallarta sounds like a good place to be. Heck, I might even go myself someday, if I can get my old bones down there.
What else you need to know?
Not much, just bring your hat, your sunscreen, and your lucky fishin’ pole. And maybe a strong back, ’cause some of them fish are gonna fight ya! And don’t forget to tip your fishin’ guide, they work hard and know where them fish are hidin’.
That’s all I got to say about Puerto Vallarta fishin’. Hope it helps ya, and good luck out there!
