Alright, let’s talk about this Nestucca River, you know, the one they all yap about. I heard it’s a pretty long river, they say it’s like, 57 miles or somethin’. That’s a far piece, ain’t it? Goes right through them woods near the ocean, over in Oregon.
Where is this Nestucca River Anyways?
Well, it starts up in them mountains, Yamhill County they call it. And then it flows, you know, like rivers do, all the way to the Pacific Ocean. They even built a big ol’ thing called McGuire Reservoir on it, up near where it starts. Probably for them city folks to have water, I reckon.
Is the Nestucca River Good for Fishin’?
Now, I ain’t much of a fisherwoman myself, but from what I hear, this here river is plum full of fish. They got them steelheads, big ol’ Chinook salmon, and some other kind of trout. Sounds like a fella could have a good time catchin’ supper there. They say you can fish pretty much all year round too, winter and summer, which is mighty nice.

Can You Do More Than Fishin’ on the Nestucca River?
Oh yeah, there’s more to do than just fishin’, I guess. They built that reservoir, see, and now folks go swimmin’ and messin’ around in the water. Sounds like fun, if you’re into that sort of thing. And I heard tell there are some pretty places along the river to look at. You know, trees and such. Nature, they call it.
Is There a Place to Stay Near the Nestucca River?
If you’re plannin’ on stayin’ a while, I reckon you need a place to lay your head. Now, I ain’t stayed there myself, but I heard tell you can find places that are real nice, like them hotels but with all the stuff you got at home. Kitchens and washin’ machines, even. They call it somethin’ fancy, like Air-B and B or somethin’. Said you can find ’em all over the world, even in big cities. Imagine that!
What Else Can I do Around the Nestucca River?
If you get tired of lookin’ at the river, I guess there’s other things to do. You can go on them tours, where they take you around and show you stuff. Costs money, though. They got all sorts of tours, to different places, even far-off lands like Bali and Paris. Heard you gotta book online and all that fancy stuff. But if you got the money and the time, I guess it could be fun.
Watchin’ Out for the Water Level
One thing you gotta watch out for, though, is the water level. They got these weather folks who keep an eye on it, and they’ll tell you if it’s gettin’ too high. Sixteen feet they call “action stage,” and eighteen feet is flood stage. Don’t wanna get caught in a flood, that’s for sure. So, listen to them weather folks, they know what they’re talkin’ about.
Nestucca River Recreation Area
And they got this place called the Nestucca River Recreation Area. Sounds fancy, don’t it? I reckon that’s where folks go to have fun on the river. Swimmin’, fishin’, maybe even just sittin’ and watchin’ the water go by. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that, I always say.
So, that’s the gist of it, this Nestucca River. Sounds like a nice enough place, if you like rivers and fishin’ and all that outdoorsy stuff. Me? I’m happy enough on my porch, but you young folks might enjoy it.
McMinnville’s Water Source
Oh, and I almost forgot! They say that big ol’ reservoir, McGuire Reservoir, is where the city of McMinnville gets its water. So, that river is important, see? Keeps them city folks hydrated, I reckon.
A Mostly Free-Flowing River
Now, aside from that reservoir, they say the Nestucca River mostly just flows along, all natural-like. Ain’t too many dams or things blockin’ it up, which is probably good for the fish and such.
