Alright, let’s talk about fishin’ in that Oswego River, you know, the one in Oswego, New York. I ain’t no fancy fishin’ expert, but I’ve heard folks catchin’ some good stuff there.
Now, they say the best place to go is right in the city of Oswego. Easy to get to, they say. You can walk right along the river, they got these concrete sidewalks and railings, so you don’t fall in, I guess. Sounds safe enough for an old lady like me, or for you young’uns too.
I hear tell they catch all sorts of fish in that river. Salmon, that’s a big one. Big and strong, them salmon are. People go crazy for ’em. And trout, too. Pretty little things, trout are. Taste good, too, fried up with some butter and salt. And bass, oh my, bass are fun to catch. They fight ya, you know? Makes it excitin’. Don’t forget about them walleye, they got them big eyes, spooky lookin’ but tasty. And them steelhead, they’re somethin’ special too. Jump right out of the water, they do!
- Salmon: Big and strong, good eatin’.
- Trout: Pretty little things, fry ’em up nice.
- Bass: Feisty fighters, make fishin’ fun.
- Walleye: Spooky lookin’ eyes, but good on the plate.
- Steelhead: Jumpers, they are, put up a good fight.
Now, I don’t know much about what bait to use or when to go. But I heard folks sayin’ somethin’ about fishin’ reports. They tell ya what’s bitin’ and where. Seems like October is a good time for fishin’ up there, but I reckon you can catch somethin’ most times of the year. Just gotta be patient, you know? Fishin’ ain’t always easy.
You gotta find yourself a good spot, that’s for sure. Maybe near them bridges, fish like to hide under them, I reckon. Or maybe where the water’s a little deeper, or where it’s movin’ fast. Lots of places to try, from what I hear. Just gotta keep your eyes open and look for them fish jumpin’.
And remember, dress warm! It gets cold up there in Oswego, especially in the fall and winter. Don’t want you catchin’ a cold instead of a fish. Wear some good boots, too, so you don’t slip on them rocks. And bring a bucket to put your fish in, and a knife to clean ’em. And don’t forget your fishin’ pole, that’s kinda important, ha!
I heard some folks use these fancy lures, shiny things that look like little fish. And some use worms or minnows, live bait, they call it. I guess it depends on what the fish are wantin’ that day. You gotta try different things, see what works. That’s the fun of it, I guess. Never know what you’re gonna catch.
And don’t be greedy, now. Only take what you need. Leave some fish for the next fella, and for the river itself. We gotta take care of our rivers, you know? They give us so much, we gotta give somethin’ back.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a good place to fish, head on up to Oswego River. Plenty of fish, easy access, just be safe and have fun. And remember, even if you don’t catch nothin’, it’s still a good day to be outside, enjoyin’ the fresh air and the sunshine, or even the cloudy skies if that’s what you got. That’s what I always say.
Fishin’ is more than just catchin’ fish, it’s about relaxin’ and enjoyin’ nature. It’s about spendin’ time with family and friends, or even just by yourself, thinkin’ about life and things. It’s good for the soul, they say. And I reckon they’re right.
So go on now, get yourself up to Oswego and try your luck. Maybe you’ll catch a big one. And if you do, send me a picture! I’d love to see it.
