Well, let me tell ya ’bout fishin’ ’round Pawleys Island, like they asked me to. Folks always want to know where to catch ’em, what kind they are, and when’s the best time to go. I ain’t no fancy fisherman, but I know a thing or two from livin’ ’round here a good while.
First off, Pawleys Island is a real nice spot for fishin’. You got the ocean, the creeks, and all them inlets. Lots of places for the fish to hide and for you to try and find ’em. They say the fish bite good in the inlet. That’s where the water comes in from the ocean and makes them little channels. You can catch flounder, red fish, and spotted seatrout there. I heard folks say Captain Nick Brown takes folks out fishin’. He knows where the fish are, I reckon.
- Flounder are them flat fish, good eatin’. They lay on the bottom and you gotta get your bait down there to ’em.
- Red fish, they’re strong and fight good. April’s a good time for ’em, when the water warms up a bit.
- Spotted seatrout, they got them spots, you know. Pretty fish, and tasty too.
You’ll need bait, of course. Live shrimp and mullet are good, or you can get them fake baits, like plastic worms and gold spoons. They got a store called Pawleys Island Outdoors, they sell all that stuff. Go see ’em, they’ll set you up right.
Now, if you want to fish from a pier, they got the Pawleys Island Pier. You can stand out there over the water and drop your line down. They say you can find out what fish are bitin’ each day if you look it up online or somethin’. I ain’t got one of them computers, so I just go when I can and hope for the best.
Then there’s the creeks. Pawleys Island Creek is a good spot. They got apps now, they say, that tell you when the fish are bitin’. I just go when the tide’s changin’, that’s usually a good time. You can fish from the bank or take a little boat out.
Midway Inlet, that’s another place they talk about. North side, they say. Fish are swimmin’ all around there, I guess. You just gotta figure out where they are at the moment.
July, that’s when it gets hot. But even then, you can still catch fish. They were bitin’ pretty good last year, even with the heat. Fish gotta eat too, you know.
Some folks like to go out on boats, fishin’ charters they call ’em. They take you out to where the fish are. You can even go duck huntin’ in the winter, if that’s your thing. They got reports on that too, where to go and what’s flyin’.
Pawleys Island ain’t just about fishin’ though. It’s a nice place to visit. They got old hotels, like the Sea View Inn and the Pelican Inn. Been there forever, they say. Nice to look at, even if you ain’t stayin’ there.
So, that’s about all I know about fishin’ ’round Pawleys Island. Just get yourself some bait, find a spot, and throw your line in. You never know what you might catch. Good luck!
