Where is this Henry Hagg Lake, anyhow?
Now, they say it’s near some city called Forest Grove, about 25 miles southwest of Portland. Never been to Portland myself, too much hustle and bustle for my taste. But folks say it ain’t too far, so that’s good, I reckon. Heard tell it’s on Scoggins Valley Road. Sounds like a pretty place, valleys always are. The address, if you need it, is 50250 SW Scoggins Valley Road, Gaston, OR 97119. But don’t go askin’ me how to get there, I just follow the signs, same as everyone else.
Parkin’ Your Car, That’s Important
So, you wanna go to the lake, gotta park that car of yours, right? Well, they got fees, you know, gotta pay to play. Some places charge ya arm and a leg, but here it ain’t so bad. Heard it’s about $7 a day, which ain’t too shabby. But, and this is a good but, if you’re a veteran or if you’re old like me, over 55, they give ya a couple of dollars off. That’s mighty nice of ’em, I say. Savin’ a few bucks here and there helps, you know?

- Seniors and veterans parkin’: $5 (that’s a good deal, I tell ya)
Now, if you’re plannin’ on goin’ a lot, they got somethin’ called a season pass. Costs a bit more upfront, but if you’re there all the time, it saves ya money in the long run. They got different prices for that, somethin’ about trailers too. Can’t rightly remember the exact numbers, somethin’ like five dollars a year for just the car, maybe seven fifty for a car and trailer. Best check on that yourself, though. Don’t want you comin’ back complainin’ to me that I got the numbers wrong.
What’s at the Lake, You Ask?
Well, it’s a big lake, they say. Real big. Acres and acres of water, somethin’ like 1,113 acres and holdin’ nearly 60,000 acre-feet of water, whatever that means. Sounds like a lot, though. Good for fishin’, I reckon, and for boatin’. Seen folks out there with their boats, lookin’ like they’re havin’ a good time. There’s a park there too. Just a regular park, I think, nothin’ fancy. They say it’s called Scoggins Valley Park.
When Can You Go?
They got hours, you know. Can’t be showin’ up in the middle of the night. Usually, they open up around 8 in the mornin’ and close at 5 in the afternoon. That’s enough time to catch a few fish or have a picnic, I guess. But, mind you, things change, so it’s always best to check before you go. Don’t wanna drive all that way and find the gates locked, now do ya?
And What About the Cost to Just Visit?
Now, that’s the best part. Just goin’ to the park, walkin’ around, enjoyin’ the view, that’s free! Can you believe it? These days, everything costs somethin’, but they let you in the park for free. That’s mighty generous of ‘em. So, if you ain’t got much money, you can still go and have a nice day. Pack a lunch, bring the kids, it’s good clean fun.
Reservations and Such
Now, if you’re plannin’ somethin’ special, like a big group get-together or somethin’, you might need to make reservations. I don’t know much about that, never had to do it myself. But they got a number you can call, or a website you can visit. Just look it up, they make it easy enough. Just search for Henry Hagg Lake information and you should find what you need. Someone smarter than me can figure out that computer stuff.
