Alright, let’s talk about them crankbaits, the kind you use to catch them fish. I ain’t no fancy fisherman, but I know a thing or two ’bout gettin’ them biters on the hook.
Now, first off, you gotta understand what these crankbaits do. They wiggle and wobble, see? Makes ’em look like a tasty little snack swimmin’ around. Fish, they ain’t too bright, they see that wiggle, they think “lunch!” and BAM! You got ’em.
Best Crankbaits? Well, that depends…
See, there ain’t just one “best.” It’s like askin’ what’s the best pie. Some folks like apple, some like cherry, you get the picture? Same with these lures. But I’ll tell ya ’bout some good ones, the ones that always seem to work for me and the fellas down at the crick.
- Rapala DT6 – “The Trusty Tracker”: Folks call this one a “trusty tracker” and for good reason. It just catches fish. Don’t know why, don’t care why. It just works. Throws it out there, reels it in slow and steady, and wham! Fish on!
- Strike King KVD 1.5: This here’s a good all-arounder. Means you can use it pretty much anywhere, anytime. Not too big, not too small, just right. Like Goldilocks and the three bears, but with fishin’ lures! Good for catchin’ them bass, I tell ya.
- Lucky Craft 1.5: Now, this one’s kinda like the Strike King, but maybe a little… fancier? I dunno, the fish seem to like it though. Costs a bit more, but sometimes you gotta spend a little to get the big ones. That’s what my grandson told me, he knows all these fancy things about fishin’.
Deep Diving Crankbaits for Deep Water Fishin’
Sometimes them fish, they like to hang out way down deep. Can’t just use any ol’ crankbait for that. You need somethin’ that’ll dive down there and get in their faces. That’s when you need them deep divers.
Now, fishin’ deep is tricky. You gotta cast far, real far, and you gotta reel it in just right. Too fast and the lure won’t get down there. Too slow and it’ll snag on somethin’. It’s a feel thing, you know? You just gotta get a feel for it.
They say when the bass are holdin’ deeper than 20 feet, it’s hard to get them crankbaits down to the bottom. Takes a long cast, that’s for sure, and maybe a big ol’ crankbait too. I ain’t got time for all that fancy castin’. I just toss it out there and hope for the best.
Shallow Water Crankbaits: Sneakin’ Up on ‘Em
But then again, sometimes them fish are up shallow, hidin’ in the weeds and the shallows. That’s when you need a different kind of crankbait, one that don’t dive too deep.
These shallow water crankbaits, they’re great for sneakin’ up on them fish. You can cast ’em right up close to the shore, or along them weed lines, and them fish won’t even know what hit ’em. Works good in the spring, when the water’s clear and startin’ to warm up. Them fish, they come in shallow lookin’ for somethin’ to eat. That’s when you get ’em!
March Fishin’ – When the Water Warms Up
Talkin’ ‘bout spring, March is a good time for fishin’. Water starts warmin’ up a bit, brings in them baitfish, and the fish get hungry. Water’s clear too, makes it easier to see what you’re doin’. Good time for catchin’ redfish, speckled trout, flounder… all sorts of good eatin’ fish.
Cold Water Fishin’ – A Secret or Two
Now, some folks say fishin’ in cold water is tough. And it can be. But there are secrets, you know? Like them secret crankbaits that work even when the water’s cold. I heard tell of some fellas using special crankbaits for cold water bass fishin’. Kept it a secret, they did. But secrets don’t stay secret forever, do they? Word gets around, especially down at the bait shop.
Size Matters… Sometimes
And don’t forget ‘bout size. Sometimes them fish want a big ol’ mouthful, sometimes they want somethin’ small and dainty. You gotta pay attention, see what they’re bitin’ on, and adjust accordingly. That’s what makes a good fisherman, ain’t it? Knowin’ what to use and when to use it.
So, there you have it. A little bit of fishin’ wisdom from an old… well, from someone who knows a thing or two about catchin’ fish. Go get yourself some crankbaits, get out there on the water, and see what you can catch. And remember, it ain’t always about the fish. Sometimes it’s just about bein’ out there, enjoyin’ the peace and quiet, and maybe catchin’ a little somethin’ for supper.
