Howdy folks! Let’s yak about them Siuslaw tides. Don’t rightly know why ya’ll wanna know, but I’ll tell ya what I know. This here river, Siuslaw, she goes up and down, just like my old blood pressure. Sometimes she’s high, sometimes she’s low. That’s what them tides is all about.
Now, they got these fancy folks with their numbers and charts. Says stuff like “low tide at 12:57 PM” or “high tide at 8:12 PM”. I reckon that means the water’s gonna be down low ’round lunchtime, then it’ll come creepin’ back up ’til evenin’. They call it Entrance, Siuslaw River, Oregon, sounds mighty important, don’t it?
They also talk about a place called Florence. Seems like the tides there are a bit different. One day they say low tide’s at 8:17 am, another day it’s 6:56 AM. Makes a body wonder if the water knows where it’s goin’. And there’s somethin’ called Cushman too, tide at 7:15 AM high then 1:16 PM low, more numbers to make your head spin.
- High tide means the water’s up real high, good for fishin’ maybe.
- Low tide means the water’s gone way down, might see some critters on the mudflats.
These tide fellers, they got a station, somethin’ called NOAA Station: Siuslaw River Entrance (9434132). Sounds official. They say the highest tide in March was somethin’ like 8.357 ft. That’s a whole lotta water, I tell ya. Another time they said 7.78 ft at 10:16 AM and that the water moved about 7.91 ft that day, from way down low at -0.13ft to way up high. My goodness, makes ya think the whole world’s gonna get washed away sometimes.
They talk about tidal range too. Near as I can figure, that’s the difference between the high water and the low water. One time it was 6.56m high at 9:58 am then 0.66ft low at 5:04 pm, that’s a lot in one day, ain’t it? Like I said, the river’s always changin’. It’s got a mind of its own, that’s for sure.
Now, they like to predict these tides. They got charts and tables for December 2024, tellin’ ya when the water’s gonna go up and down. I reckon it’s helpful for them boat folks, so they don’t get stuck in the mud. Me, I just stay on dry land, thank ya very much. Less chance of gettin’ my feet wet.
So, that’s the lowdown on them Siuslaw tides, as best as I can tell ya. It’s all about the water goin’ up and down, high and low. Don’t rightly know why it does it, but it does. And that’s all there is to it, far as I’m concerned. Just keep an eye on that water, folks, she can be tricky.
Oregon tides, that’s what they are. Up and down, just like life, I reckon.
