Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout them fishin’ lures, the ones they use for that sockeye salmon. Them fish, they ain’t easy to catch, ya know. You gotta have the right stuff. Now, I ain’t no expert, but I seen folks pullin’ in them red fellas with these here lures.
First off, they got these hoochies. Don’t ask me why they call ’em that, sounds kinda silly if ya ask me. But they work! They say ya gotta use the small ones, the 2.5 inch ones. Not them big ol’ salmon hoochies. I guess the sockeye, they like the little things.

Now, some folks say you gotta use a hoochie. And if that ain’t workin’, try a hoochie! Sounds kinda dumb, right? But that’s what they say. Maybe it’s the color or somethin’. They talk about colors disappearin’ in the water. Red goes first, they say. Fish can’t see it. So, maybe ya gotta use a different color hoochie. Who knows!
Them fish, they fight hard. You need a good rod and reel, somethin’ strong. They say 8 to 20 pound line. That sounds about right. Them sockeye, they ain’t no little fishies. They pull and they fight. You gotta be ready.
And them fly rods, they use them too. 7 to 9 weight, they say. I dunno much about fly fishin’. Looks too fancy for me. But I seen folks usin’ ’em and catchin’ fish. So, I guess they work.
It’s all about the gear, ya know. Gotta have the right stuff. And the right lure. Them hoochies, they seem to do the trick. Just remember, small ones! 2.5 inches. And don’t be afraid to try different colors. Ya never know what them fish are gonna like on any given day.
Fishin’ ain’t easy. It takes patience. And luck. You can have all the right lures, all the right gear, but if them fish ain’t bitin’, they ain’t bitin’. That’s just the way it is.
But when you do hook one, oh boy, it’s somethin’ else. That fight, that pull. It’s excitin’! And then ya get ’em in, that beautiful red sockeye. It makes it all worth it. All the waitin’, all the tryin’. It’s a good feelin’.
So, if ya wanna catch them sockeye salmon, get yourself some of them hoochies. Small ones. 2.5 inches. And be patient. Fishin’ takes time. But it’s worth it. Trust me.
