Well, howdy there! Let me tell ya’ about the fishin’ down here, you know, where the water’s salty and the sun shines bright. Folks call it SPI, I just call it “the place where I catch my supper.”
This week’s fishin’ report, well, it’s been a mixed bag, just like life, ain’t it? Some days you get a bucket full, some days you just get a wet line and a sunburn.
The Reds, Black Drum, and Flounder
Now, them fellas over on the boats, they sayin’ the Redfish are bitin’ pretty good. Big ones too! Captain George, bless his heart, he knows where them biguns hide. He’s always chasin’ after them Redfish, and the Black Drum too. And them Flounder, flat as a pancake and tasty as can be, they’re around too. You gotta know how to talk to ’em though, you know, gentle like.
- Redfish: Big and strong, fight like a mule, but taste like heaven.
- Black Drum: They ain’t as pretty, but they got meat on their bones, that’s for sure.
- Flounder: Sneaky little fellas, hiding on the bottom, but oh so good fried up in a pan.
South Bay and Kayak Fishin’
If you ain’t got a boat, don’t you worry none. South Bay, just across the way, that’s where the fun is at. Perfect for them little plastic boats, the kayaks, you know? Plenty of Redfish in there, and Trout too. And them Snook, they’re kinda fancy, but they’re bitin’ too. They even got one of them “paddlin’ trails” they call it. Takes you right to where the fish are bitin’. It’s like a treasure map, but for fish! Ain’t that somethin’? Folks are sayin’ the fishin’ conditions are just fair, not great, not bad, just…fair. But fair is good enough for me!
Surf Fishin’ and What Bait to Use
Now, if you like to keep your feet on the sand, surf fishin’ is the way to go. Just throw your line out there from the beach, any beach will do. You can catch all sorts, whiting, pompano, even them sharks, if you’re brave enough. And them Flounder, they like the surf too. Shrimp and clams, that’s what them fish like to eat. You can buy ‘em or dig ‘em up yourself, if you’re feelin’ ambitious.
What’s Biting When?
Now, they got these reports, you know, tellin’ you what’s bitin’ and when. They say back in May 2023, and even this past December 2024, the fishin’ was good. And right now, well, it’s August 21, 2024, as I’m talkin’ to ya, and the fishin’ is…well, it’s fishin’. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good. That’s just the way it is.
Captains and Their Reports
Captain Jorge, he puts out a report too. And Captain Andrew, he’s fishin’ every day, tellin’ folks what’s what. They’re good fellas, know their stuff. You wanna know where to go and what to use, listen to them. Or, you know, just go out there and try your luck. That’s what I do mostly.
My Advice
So, that’s the fishin’ report, as best as I can tell ya. Go early, go late, use shrimp, use clams, use what you got. And most importantly, have fun. ‘Cause even if you don’t catch nothin’, you still spent a day by the water, and that’s better than a day stuck inside, that’s for sure.
And remember, a bad day of fishin’ is still better than a good day of workin’!
That’s all I got to say. Now get out there and catch some fish!
